Color Preferences
A lot of photographers, especially photojournalists, tend to use red and black. I want to stay away from those colors to help my logo stand out.

I like chocolate brown, especially paired with a saturated and bold color like orange or yellow. I'm also open to trying grey paired with some saturated colors like green, blue, orange or yellow.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
PLEASE don't design anything that references a camera, film, lens, etc. I feel that is too literal.

Although I live in Houston, I see my brand as more coastal - San Francisco Bay Area, Pacific Northwest and New York City. Some words to think about are urbane, sophisticated, smart, creative, forward-thinking, well-traveled, literate, artful, clean, elegant but in an art-deco, Bauhaus fashion rather than a rococo style.

The logo should not feel corporate. It should be fresh and modern and appeal to creative professionals
also nothing too web 2.0. I'm not a software company. I want my logo to reflect the creative nature of my business, but not reference photography literally.

I would like to see 'emblem' designs. I like the idea of the logo being contained in some sort of shape.

To all amazing designers, we added something to the brief - "PLEASE don't design anything that references a camera, film, lens, etc. I feel that is too literal."

Also, please stay away from anything that feels "corporate." The brand should feel unique and singular.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Folks,

A couple of thoughts I'd like to share with you all.

Think about design that trends toward classic and timeless.

Please stay away from designs that look like the old logo from Kaepa shoes in the 1980's (remember those?) or any other athletic shoe logo. A sense of energy is good, but we don't shoot sports photography.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder to please read the brief before working on your design. I am an artist and the logo needs to be young, fresh and creative and not too serious or corporate.

I've removed the links for photographs of modern architecture since they were being interpreted literally.

I look forward to your submissions. PLEASE write me with any questions you might have about the brand.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Everyone,

Please, no more "signature" submissions. I've seen a variety at this point and am sure they are not right for the brand.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Everyone,

We've added some more specifics in the brief. If you wish to continue to please review the brief before continuing with your designs.

Thank you all for your efforts so far.

mkdes!gn and NancyCarterDesign are stepping up the competition with clever ideas and lots of personality! I'd love to see more of the same!

Designers,

I'm seeing a number of logos using type-face with rounded edges.

I'd rather see people stick with the basics - Helectiva, Gill Sans or other sans serif fonts that have the same feel.

The rounded letters have a vague feminine quality about that is not representative of my brand.

Thank you,

Eric Kayne
