My first entry, I'm just showing the Lincoln Park location for now as it is longer than 'West Loop' so I know it will fit in the same area if/when needed. If you need me to show the 'West Loop', let me know. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.
#5 and #6 - This is a great start. We really like your treatment of the location. We are struggling with the treatment of the brand name. We see CrossFit Chicago as one whole name and the current treatment treats CrossFit to be more important. I encourage you to explore placing CrossFit Chicago on equal footing. Also, there seems to be a lot going on style wise with drop shadows, shading gradients, highlights, etc. As much as we want something to be graphically interesting, we would prefer only moderate use of the those treatments. Nice use of the skyline too. Overall, it is getting there and we thank you for putting the time in.
#8, #9 - Thanks for the entries, we seem to be moving away however. Even though the brand name is given equal footing here, it becomes too busy against the current graphic. Also, there are too many colors adding to the busy-ness. If you choose to use something "Chicago", we would suggest using only 1 element (currently the flag and skyline), but not both. On that note, we really like the introduction of the flag as a strong original idea. We would like to see what other layouts you have with the flag, but please remember we appreciate simplicity. We look forward to seeing your next round of creative.
#13, We really like the simplicity and straightforwardness. We would like to see something other than gray however. If you could produce another version where the logo doesn't seem to tilt away from the viewer would be appreciated. As it looks now, it reminds us of a battleship with the skyline and maybe the non-tilt will prevent that.
#10, #11, thanks for incorporating the flag in here. These aren't as strong as the rest of your work, but if you would like to continue down this path, we would highly encourage it. The sticking point on these is the font. It seems too bubbley or round. As a fitness center, we prefer more toned images and that can applied to the logo as well. The gray isn't working here as well. We would be interested in seeing what the logo would look like if the chicago flag colors were incorporated more heavily. Thanks again.
#13, #14 - This shape isn't working for us. The brand name bunched together spanning the city is difficult to read and the ship shape is still apperant. Thanks for trying the various options as the red and blue looked much better than the red and gray. At the end of the day, this shape doesn't work.
#15 - We like this version more and we'll soon move it up on our rankings. We still have the same issue as #13 and #14 with our Brand Name. I think this logo can go two ways for the next round, either really simplistic or more complex and as it stands in the middle now, it doesn't convey the dedication and community aspect of our business. However, the skyward gradient does a great job of showing leadership and movement, which we liked and that could live in the more complex version. This logo reminded us of the Chicago Olympics logos and we find great inspiration in those pieces. The colors aren't ideal, but maybe it could spark something.
# 16 - I really don't think the larger/thick fonts are working for us. We love the simplicity and think this one could use a few slimmer font options. The color scheme is working.
#18, #19, #20, #21, #23, - We are finding it really difficult to read the brand name on these logos. Whenever the words are against each other, especially in all caps, they blur together. The brand name can be on two lines, they just can't be two different sizes.
#19 - Lincoln Park should be after the brand name as well
#25, #26, #28, these are much closer to what we are looking for and we have moved your entries up appropriately. A global change for these three would be to reexamine what is within the sphere. The skyline isn't doing too much for us in such a little space so let's take a look at other possibilities. We are unsure of the star AND another graphic, but we'll have to see what the other graphic could possibly be. Colors are spot on too.
#26 - Nonetheless, we really like the upward movement of the sphere and how the location name sits nicely within the tail. We would like to see slimmer fonts here just for reference as well. We did like the font in #25 more. Maybe there is something in between?
#28 - Really strong logo and it has a very professional and clean look. We don't like having the 3 colors within the brand name. We are comfortable with 2, but three is two much. Cross and Fit need to be the same color as well since is is one word.
#25 - this one fell to 3rd because the sphere is so pronounced here and we weren't on board with the sphere's contents. Maybe something athletic or sporty inside? We ask for you to explore the space and see what happens.
#32 - Great logo here too. Really simple and ties into the flag obviously. However, it isn't memorable for us since the Chicago Flag has such a strong presence in the city, that we would need it to stand out somehow
#22 - we like this version, but the simpler logo versions are much stronger
Thanks for the feedback, I am away from my design computer right now, but I've been throwing pencil sketches together all day. I'll take what I came up with & integrate your latest feedback for my next round o' designs.
Some great stuff here. We look forward to seeing what kind of element you bring to the sphere in your next round. We like where #40 and #41 are going. The Japanese character is a bit much for us however. Some quick ideas from us on the shooting object: a Chicago Star, a medicine ball (look up dynamex medicine balls), etc.
Also, we prefer the upward moving object as opposed to the downward object. We believe it to be more aspirational.
Thanks, I'll post some new designs later on tonight. BTW, do you have a favorite font out of my entries? If so, I'll try to stick with that on my next designs.
#40 - Font works well. Maybe try to flatten out the skyline?
#44 - We really like where this is going as well. Try a stronger color (moving away from the Chicago flag colors) and a more distinctive portion of the skyline as the space within the star is limited, so maybe if we focus on a smaller portion of the skyline, it will be more clear. This font works well for this design.
Here is a trimmed down version of the skyline using 311 S. Wacker, Sears Tower (I can't call it the Willis Tower!) the Prudential Building, The Amoco building & the Hancock. Still working on some spoty images & medicine ball image...
#76 and #77 - i feel this image became very busy with the skyline, star, bubble, and the outline around the brand name. The simpler versions worked better for us.
#65 - we like the subtle change in the font. We are on the fence right now on which version (#65 vs #58) we like better, but they are both strong contenders
#75 - the star looks great in the sphere, we like this as well
#68 - great use of the medicine ball, but it is too much with the skyline. How about trying it in place of the sphere in #58?
#59 - I don't know if this is simple or not, but we would be interested in seeing more of the skyline. Would a ten-point star give you anything?
We can praise you enough for your work. Solid stuff.
Thanks for asking for my opinion, I'd have to say (in no particular order) #59 - #58 - #63 & I still like #6 but I completely understand if that's not what you're looking for. I won't be at my computer when the contest ends, but remeber that the 1st place designer can still make changes while in judging mode. Thanks for all of your feedback throughout the contest, it is very helpful and much appreciated. Some contest holders hardly communicate at all, then they wonder why they are not getting what they are looking for. Hopefully I can end up providing what you want & will be happy with. Let me know if you need to sae anything different, I will be here for the next hour or so (until 5pm) Thanks again, Don
Hi, on #58, I just noticed that the reflection in the sphere is not in front of the buildings as I show on #65, not sure if you noticed the difference, but I meant to have it in front. If you have a preference, let me know, anything can be easily changed if needed.
