"At the end of the day is it about connecting, shortening the distance/time between two parties and communicating. The is in the exchange when the connection is made. "

Incorporating arrows into an x is an option. Another is using people icons like Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/ or in a infinite connection like that implied by Boonex http://www.boonex.com. Colors likely more like Audience Science http://www.audiencescience.com/
