hi Josh-
i love this color, and the lines are very pretty...any way to work some kind of wispy/feather motif in among the swirls - like feather/s on the wind?

and would you try just capitalizing the "C" and the "A" as in proper names - with the mantra all in lowercase; in maybe a slightly less "block-ish" font?

thank you so much for YOUR time and effort - it is appreciated!!!
Best regards,
Elena

Hi Elena :) Here are some variations with feathers worked into the fleurishes. If there's anything else you'd like me to try, please just ask.
Thanks again for the opportunity

hi Josh-
these are gorgeous...the bottle-cap style design is really cute, a little fancy, a little vintage. I like it...and you really chose fantastic colors too...thank you so much!

how do you think these would look in rubber-stamp format? can you upload a bw version for me if you have a chance?

that's great - tx...can you invert that for me too, so that the graphic will be inked, and the negative space in the design will be the negative space on the stamp? I know that might affect the edges...

Thanks, Josh!

a few requests (take your time)

1) can i see the design in some sort of cocoa/mocha color?

2) any way to work in a bird's nest among the flourishes in the bottom center of the design, even maybe overlapped by the feather on the bottom right (right if you're viewing the screen) - i use a lot of bird/nest charms, as well as having a "Bird's Nest" bracelet design that sells pretty well.

3) we will be launching our guy's jewelry collection in 2015....i do some men's and unisex jewelry now (here's an example: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/214540196) but it's mostly by special request/custom order, so i don't do much advertising geared at men. I plan to change that this coming year, as more and more i find there's a gap in the market, both online and in our show audiences...our tagline for the campaign will be, "find something his" - so when we do ads, we're gonna run it as "find something hers, find something his, find something yours..."

i think you probably have the best understanding of my target market - any chance you could work up a "guy-i-fi'ed" version of this bottle-cap? Less scroll-y, but still brand-identifiable? Maybe in the color of #113, or a slate grey, or something...

I want something that will be cohesive, so when we gift-box stuff, the shape will be the same, and we can use a "his" or "hers" label depending on the item.

like i say, take your time.
Thank you so much.

sorry! lol - one more random request - can i see what #112 would look like in relief, and WITHOUT the circular border? So JUST the scrolls and feathers, in Aqua - and maybe the text in faded Cocoa brown?

:)

I'll have those changes tomorrow, if that's okay? My wife got home late (haven't seen her all day), and I try not to work late on days like that.

Thanks Elena :)

Good morning :) Here are the revisions. The only thing I can't really do at this point, would be to make the separate guy version. Since it's technically a different logo, that would have to be a separate revision job that we would need work out after the contest. Sorry for the inconvenience - Logotournament is really strict about what they deem as "extras". (Color variations aren't a problem - you can have as many color versions as you'd need...it's just when it becomes altered / adjusted artwork. I hope you understand.)

Thanks!

hi Josh-
i love them.

and yes, i totally understand - no problem. That means that you think it can be done, and that you're willing to try at some point, and that's great.
Thank you so much!

Oh yeah - definitely possible. I think if you take away some of the lines and bulk up / straighten them out a bit it would work fine. :)

Hi Josh-
I would like to ask a couple minor revisions. I think the mantra text may display too small to be legible - say, on a business card. I was staring at the design trying to conceive somewhere else to fit it in, but i think it would just end up ruining your beautiful lines. So i think we should forgo it for now, unless you have another suggestion.

- May i see the following:
using #120 and #123 for reference (i can figure the color thing out later - they're all gorgeous) - in the version of the design with the nest, i think my initial suggestion was wrong - i think the feather on the bottom right should be shifted out just a bit so as NOT to overlap the nest. A digital image might look ok, but in print, i think the lines will muddle.

even without the nest, in the version *without* the surrounding circle, that shift will create better visual balance in the shape.

And IF you have a chance - in the nest version, what about trying to replace the top centered feather with a small bird image...enough space?

- And i have a question:
if you take a look at our website (www.cricketandabacus.com) you'll see that the center overlay - the transparent square there - displays font with the name and mantra. This is the standard option on the template i'm using, and i like it, but ideally it would be replaced with a brand-specific image. I'll probably want a mono-chrome design for this particular placement.

i know the files i receive from you will be on a transparent background - and if the image is in black, or a darker color, this won't be an issue.

i just wanted to make sure of one thing - is it possible to create an image in opaque white, but still with a transparent background so that i could "super-impose" it over a darker color? that might be a silly question...

I appreciate it!
and PS - thanks for the grey/black version - my husband says even with the scrolly lines and frilly text, it looks really cool :)

Hi Elena - here are some revisions with the feather bumped out. I also did one without the nest and the tagline in its place. You could maybe use it as an alternate?

Hi Josh-
thank you...i think i have a very good idea of the options now...

ironically, i believe i like your original #112/#113/#114/#119 best...minus the mantra, and possibly with the right lower feather bumped out...

#132 is good, in terms of being able to fit the mantra (maybe a slightly diff font?) but i hate to sacrifice more of the design for that sake. can i ask what size image you are working with? If i do put it up on our site, i could always ask for a version with the mantra worked in and give you the max dimensions, so you'd have a little more freedom in terms of placement.

i think i tried to squeeze too much into a small space with the nest...maybe that's a concept we could work out later, the bird/nest concept, for printing on a T-shirt or postcards for our spring/summer shows...

i also notice that in your very first submission (#76) because of the orientation of the block font, the mantra was already larger - so all we'd have to do would be to take put those two tiny curly-q's on either side, and you'd be able to enlarge the mantra font just a bit. SO again, that's something we could work on. And the block font would be great for the men's version down the line.

those are my thoughts for now - - - none of it is urgent, we have 6 more days, i believe - and you have a life and a family...i know as well as anyone that working for yourself doesn't mean being on call (or it *shouldn't*). i just post stuff as soon as i think of it so that you have time to work on it when you can.

thanks again, and have a wonderful rest of the wknd.

#134 / #133

Hi Elena :) Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! There a little tweaks we can make along the way for sure. These versions are based on the #112 entries with the feather bumped out and a new mantra font.

Regarding the size - I can make it any size you need :) All the work is done in vector-based graphics that can scale up & down without pixelation (as opposed to "raster-based" graphics, which have a set resolution) The files you get from the contest are a vector .eps and a raster .jpg. I typically send a follow-up email after the contest with a few different formats and whatever other color versions you'd want (most designers will supply those files upon request)

Hope that helps. Any other revisions you want to see, just let me know. I don't check as much on the weekends as I do during the week, but I do still check.

Have a great afternoon

Josh-
beautiful.

strictly contrasting #133 to #114, I do miss the little stars, and that curl around the middle left feather. Other than that, i believe we've achieved perfection. i love it.

when i said what "size", i should have been more precise...i sort of meant, what size are you literally viewing it on your screen...in other words, when you're determining whether something will be detailed enough or legible, what actual VIEWING size/scale are you looking at/working with.

For example, if you were doing a T-shirt or Tote-bag graphic, you would know you could add more detail than if the image were ONLY to be used for business cards - but if you were strictly designing bus cards, it wouldn't make sense to be working with a large field, then shrink it down to fit...that makes sense, right? I was really just curious.

This final version (possibly minus mantra - i'm still hedge-y on that) is perfect for business cards and small display on web. Larger version with bird/nest would be great for postcards, and mantra would be no issue. Larger still version with maybe even more of the existing design would be gorgeous on a T-shirt and i can't wait to wear it - that's how i know i love it....because i want the T-shirt now, lol... :)

My sincerest thanks!

ohhhh - okay, I see. It's currently around 3" diameter in print size, but I usually zoom in to actually work, so the working size is around 11" diameter. The normal display size is around 1.5" diameter? Sorry...that might not help at all...lol

Ideally - I try and make logos that will scale down reasonably small, but are clean enough to be blown up large. The tagline is always that tricky part, because it can't be as large as the logo, so it's already starting out very small. What I **usually** suggest if the tagline is a more prominent aspect of the brand is to go ahead and make it more prominent when necessary. For business cards, for example - you could use the logo at an appropriate size and then - in a similarly-sized space - place your mantra to give it nearly equal importance (Actually - you've kinda done that already on your website...the divider line puts an emphasis on the mantra, if that makes sense?)

I actually didn't mean to leave the stars out - sorry about that :/ I think they were locked when I dragged the copy over to work on it. I'll add them back in. I'll see about getting the curl in there, too :)

thanks!
josh

actually, yes, that makes perfect sense. thanks for the explan.

the stars are such a tiny detail, i know, but i didn't realize what they added til they were gone - they really did make it "twinkle" if that's possible.

"gotcha" on all else - ty :)

- sorry - one more thing - just a color request, i promise - when you do revision can i see it in the cocoa brown - i think that shows the detail best

- and can i see #134 with design in brown, font in blue (reverse of #124 's palette)

ty AGAIN!!!

Hey Elena - here are versions with the stars and a little curl on the right feather in the different colors. I did bump up the rose color a touch. Of course, I'll supply you with whatever colors you need, so if you're trying to decide between one way or another - no worries - you can have them both :)

Anything else you'd like to see, just let me know. We're headed out the door right now to hunt down a Christmas tree (it's snowing - so the weather's perfect. We homeschool our kids...so we're calling this a field trip :) ), but I'll be back at my desk around noon - 1 (CST)

Thanks Elena!

hi there! ok - here i am, because i gave you my word...

so, real quick, two tiny things and then we're done :)

on #136
1. can you add back that curl around the feather on the middle left (sorry - viewer's left)...as in #119
2. can you shift that little star that's currently inside the curl on the bottom right feather to outside it, as in 119

for specific locations, see here: https://plus.google.com/photos/112510143835708043580/albums/6086215690538573089?authkey=COru-bKwgvG9iQE

that's it - - - i should have time tomorrow morn before we leave for family to end the contest - or whenever you're ready, no stress.

Then i get to drive myself crazy picking colors! lol.

Happy TG to you and yours!
