Hey there, thanks for the message and the logo. ;)
We love the playfulness and friendliness of it, it basically invites people to come in. It is also great in the sense that we could take out the "BEERVANA" name and use it as a simple logo wherever the full one would be too much and still be recognizable to everyone.
Love the little details in the font (foam coming down, little CO2 bubbles in the letters, shadow on the taps as well as the beer/head idea in the letters themselves, etc.). The shine/glow is excellent too as it's there but doesn't take away from the rest of the logo so the name stays the most noticeable.
Some ideas we've been thinking about that might be interesting to explore for the logo would be:
1. Our draft system will be bronze/copper like this one http://www.varia-plus.sk/images/big/brauhaus-ponte-rame-8.jpg . We will have 12 taps but it might be interesting to see what a change of color does to the logo. We do like the contrast between the gray draft system and the text color and are just wondering what would happen if the color of the draft system were to be complimentary to the yellow of the beer. Maybe you could try some nice brownish/bronzish/orangey color that would go well with the overall design? Perhaps add a little bit of condensation on the draft system? 2. The "craft beer" text below Beervana is a great idea. Could you change it to "pivo inak"? (It means 'beer differently' in our language.) 3. The space around "BEERVANA" maybe looks a little empty like this. We like this version as it keeps things "simple" even though the logo is quite complex. We are just wondering what would happen if we filled the space somehow without ruining the clean design and good/clear visibility of "BEERVANA". Originally, in our heads we saw the name Beervana coming out of the taps in the form of beer (different color of beer from different taps). Aesthetically speaking, maybe that isn't such a great idea for the logo but if the letters were somehow getting "filled" with beer pouring from the taps, that might look very cool. What do you think? 4. The logo will be used in print, on website, clothing, coasters, etc. but also in a larger format (on the building and probably on a billboard or two as well). It is excellent that there are details in the logo that will show when printed in a larger format. In our opinion, the logo also compliments the space we rented for the bar a few days ago. Maybe a picture of the place helps you come up with additional cool features or details. The logo would be placed in the rectangular metal frame above the main entrance. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9t3le3kbupjeg6t/20150414_184213.jpg?dl=0
Thanks so much for your time and work, we really appreciate it!!
For the time being, I send you this variation #18 . I have to take care of other matters now, as fast as I can I will explore the beer coming out of the taps option.
Please, don't hesitate to ask for any change you need.
Best, Oscar
PD: You have a good eye for to see the CO2 bubbles :)
Yeah, they're not very hard to notice when you zoom in a little. :) I notice details when it comes to something I'm this passionate about.
Thank you so much for the change. I like the new logo but I somehow like your first one better. The gray in there contrasts the "BEERVANA" part and makes the name stick out. With the draft system being copper/bronze, the name sort of blends in and is not as obvious. I was thinking maybe if we changed the outlines of BEERVANA from this brownish color to black or dark gray, it would make it pop out more again. I have utmost confidence in your aesthetic and design abilities so if you play with the colors a bit to make the "BEERVANA" stick out more, I'm sure you'll get it right. Maybe all it needs is a bit of a shadow? I'm not sure.
Also, could you please make the "pivo inak" part straight again as in your first logo? We think it made the logo more 'complete'.
I really like your work, it's fun and friendly and that's what we want the place to be - inviting people to come in, to try new beers and talk to us and other customers about them. There are thousands little breweries in Europe and at our place they get to try new styles and tastes every day. No clue how much of a beer geek you are (if at all) but there are quite a few good places in Barcelona too by the looks of it (http://www.timeout.com/barcelona/bars-and-pubs/craft-beer-bars).
Anywho, thanks again for your time and effort and if you feel creative, feel free to change things around. We'd be more than happy to look at more of your ideas.
I'm agree that the name stick out less now. I'm out of home at this moment, in a few hours I will try some solutions you propose Yes, I like so much beer but I'm not able to leave the typical trade names. Barcelona has an excellent beer called MORITZ, I like so much the MORITZ EPIDOR but I have yet to taste the Slovak beer ;)
Beer is the drink that unites the world. ;) ... Yeah, any Slovak beer you're likely to find outside Slovakia will be mass-produced lager that is filtered and pasteurized = not good. For the good stuff you have to come visit this little country...
I also used to drink the typical lager beers until some 4 years ago and never even knew there was such a difference. It's like going to a fancy restaurant and having the most amazing burger vs buying the fast foody one in the supermarket and heating it up in the microwave. That much difference.
I've had Edge Brewing beers before and they are based in Barcelona. I've never had Moritz but reading about it sounds like it's a smaller "big" brewery that filters and pasteurizes their stuff. It's perfectly fine to prefer one or the other but if Edge Brewing is near you or you're intrigued to try what craft beer tastes like, I strongly suggest to check it out. I'm not sure if there is any better place to go in your city. I know I will when I finally make my way to Barcelona (which is something I've been meaning to do for ages now!).
By the way, the site name LOGO TOURNAMENT is really starting to make sense to me now. People are getting competitive and posting new logos (not as good as yours by far though).
I had to check it was the same dark brown for both versions (gray and bronze),,, really seems more lighter at the bronze version!
I tried to darken the outlines of BEERVANA and added a subtle shadow at . Anyway we can return to the grey option if necessary.
Now it's a little late but tomorrow morning we can continue working at the other options,
And yes, Moritz it's exactly a smaller "big" brewery that probably filters and pasteurizes their beer as you says ...Regarding craft beer, now curiosity bit me, I will read some reviews before, for hit the target (edgebrewing seems a great option)
Buf, I hope you have understood something with my "GoogleTranslatorEnglish" Oscar

I've been testing and there is no decent way to pouring down beer from taps. There is a conflict with the dark edge of the letters and with the space between leters ( different number of letters and taps) . Also the design it becomes more complex.

Hi there. Sorry for being inactive for a day, had to travel out of town.
I agree, I like #36 the best, making the outline of the letters thicker black really brings it forward and makes it stick out. I think it looks pretty good. I suspected the beer flowing into the letters might not be the best idea design-wise but thanks for trying anyway, I really appreciate it.
Just tried to copy paste #36 in a photo editor and I'm looking at it in black and white. Looks pretty good to me in black & white too. I'll show it to some people and get back to you. ;)
Thanks for the B/W version but I wouldn't bother you with such simple tasks.
We're pretty much set on this logo, we really like it. I'm just not sure how it'll look printed on glasses (color should be perfectly fine I suppose, sanding might be a bit tricky, I'll have to ask in the shop) and especially T-shirts. It can be printed digitally in full color which is fine but I'm not sure what to do with it to print it on black t-shirts.
What is your experience with logos such as this one when it comes to printing on merchandise? Also, what do you think it will look like when printed in a large format, such as billboard?
I send you this variations for black background #43#44 . I made some changes in color, personally I think it's better remove the letters border (more pop at #43 version )
Regarding formats do not think you have any problem. The final delivery format is vector .eps and .ai, you can extend these ones all you need without losing resolution. Also, the .eps file is an industry standard. It can be imported into all major design programs, and is often the file of choice for printing companies.
Please, tell me if you need some other proof, Oscar
looks great on black background too, awesome! I personally like it without the letters border but my buddy likes the outline version better. Different people, different taste, I suppose.
Just one more thing, why did you change the color of the shine from yellow to the same as the draft system? Did it not look as good with the subtle yellow?
the light yellow over black background loses subtlety, as you can see at this proof #45 it works well over light background, over dark backgrounds the yellow should be darkened... I think it takes too much prominence
My apologies for it taking this long but my partner in crime and I have been traveling for the past 3 days. Thank you very much for your time and all the work you've put in the logo! :)
