Hello there,

I hope your having a good week so far?

Here are some of my proposals.
Instead of creating a separate icon / typography combination, I've created an all encompassing logo / unit. One that can be used for additional elements just as branding stamps, watermarks, shirt badges/embroidery etc.

The logos are 100% vector so will scale well to any size, and works well in full colour, B&W and on coloured backgrounds if needed,

It would be my pleasure to work up any variations so please do say.
I look forward to your comments or thoughts.

Regards,
Angus

Hey Angus hope your weeks going good as well.

Thank you for submitting your designs so early on in the contest and your definitively on the right track with these ideas.

The one thing I would say is the filled in sections are too bold for what I am looking for. The overall size is good but everything doesn't need to be filled in, I was envisioning a logo with some white space in it. Also I do not think I would want The words quality, durability and longevity in the logo. The only writing I think would work would be the Company name, the abbreviation (BTG) and/or the established date (est. 2014).

Going through your portfolio, I really liked Almighty Spirits Distiller, Poplar Creek Brewing, Richmond Republic Draught House as logos and could envision my logo in a similar style and just a little less complex.

I especially like your logo for Old Jollop as I had been toying around with a similar style logo with BTG as the letters and a Mountain in the bottom of the X

I hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks again for submitting!

Cheers,

Cody

Hey Cody,

Thanks for the great feedback and comments, always appreciated!
And thanks for the kind words with regards to my other logos :)

This time I've started in its simplest form, monotone ... I've always been a believer if it works in this, it will work in colour. And also shows that it can work for things like newspaper print etc.

I've also simplified the designs a lot, focusing on the core items; BTG, Name and Established date.
Here are the new designs; #23, #24, #25 and #26

The crossed lines actually represent ski's ... with #23 its more of a basic line, but for the others I actually made the ends looks like ski tips.

Hope you like them, and look forward to your feedback.

Cheers

Hey Angus great job with the logo! That's extremely close to what I want and It gave me the inspiration to finally sketch what was in my head. Do you have an email I can send the rough sketch to you?

Pretty much its stylized like an old vintage badge. In the center there the same center theme you have for 23-26. However the cross does not go past the circle border. Also for the cross the right (top) to left (bottom) line stays the same while the left to right one has both ends curved like a snowboard. The mountain in the bottom is the outline of the Teton mountain range in Wyoming

the external is like #25 but with a larger circle encompassing the writing. The top part would have both Backwoods and TechGear before the est 2014. Where you have Est and 2014 instead put three trees like the ones in the ski sundown logo.

http://skisundown.com/Portals/0/logo.png

They are my home ski mountain and I am try to pay homage to them in my logo design. For most of the secondary ring where the writing is the backround is orange but in the In the the area where you have TechGear in #25 (between the two lines) the backround is black and you have "Established 2014".

Finally the outer border is a gear with rounded lines and black, for instance

For the center backround I think ether blank or a wood like brown but Im not 100% sure on that.

Again I have this sketched and can send it over to you which would make a lot more sense than my description.

Thanks for all your hard work Angus!

Hey Cody,

Sorry for the delay - I'm based in the UK, so had switched off for the evening!

Unfortunately we're not allowed to pass on emails and discuss things outside of the competition, site rules I'm afraid! The lucky winner will be allowed once they have been chosen though. That said you can upload your sketch to this project and that will then make it accessible to all.

But in the meantime let me work up some variations based on your comments.

No worries my man, completely understandable.

My computer was on the fritz for a bit but I finally got the sketch to load onto the contest. Its uploaded under the file name "current logo idea". Just about to post a general comment for everyone.

Thank a lot Angus, look forward to seeing it! One thing I forgot to mention. I think with the cross in the middle would look good without it touching the edges of the circle border.

Cheers man,

Hey Cody,

Agreed, and that's what I've done with #50 - is this what you were thinking?
One thing I haven't done is curved the top left cross ski to make it like a snowboard - when I tried it felt unbalanced i.e. I kept focusing on the top right one and going why isn't that curved. I knew why LOL, but it kept sticking out if that makes sense.

I've also added a bit of vintage / grunge texture over the entire logo.

Look forward to your comments.

You nailed it Angus, that's exactly the design I was looking for!

I understand about the ski and snowboard not working, it'd probably drive me crazy being un-symmetrical. The only other comments I have are small nit picky things. I think the backwoods background should be orange as well. For the X I think just straight lines will suffice instead of the skis or snowboards. Also I think the mountain peaks should be extended up a bit to fill the white space above it, maybe separate the bottom from the middle border but im not sure about that. Finally im not sure about the stars but I cant think of anything to replace them, would you have any ideas? Maybe a basic wheat design like on beer bottle labels or something. Like I said im not sure what Id put there and the stars may end up being the best option

Thank you again for this great design

Hey there Cody,

Thanks for the feedback and of course no problems at all re the changes!

Here are a few new options; #71, #72, #73, #74, #75, #76 and #77
With #71 I tried separating the mountain, but personally I think its better attached. But completely your call :)

Speak to you soon.

I agree I think Its better connected. The last things Id say is change the backwoods text to black and try changing the wheat like design black as well, its between that and the stars. Finally Id like to see the white background as a wood-like brown to compare it to the white. Maybe change the BTG, cross and mountains in the brown one to white make it more visable. That should do it, and thanks for the great logo

Hey Cody,

No problems at all, will work on some options for you.
When you say wood brown - are you thinking on the lighter or darker shade?

Hey Cody,

Hope you had a good Friday night?
Here are those changes ....

#80 - as per original but black "Backwoods TechGear"
#81 - as per original also black "Backwoods TechGear" and wheat
#82 - version of #80 but on dark brown and white elements
#83 - another version of #80 but on lighter brown and white elements now in beige
#84 - version of #80 but this time swapping black for a softer dark brown and making the background beige

Personally I'm quite liking the colours of #84 - its a bit softer but still has a strong presence.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Cheers
