I like the idea of picture which represents the extreme beauty and vitality of the area. The Arcata area is best represented by ocean, bay, trees and rocky cliffs. I like the idea of COLOR in the scenery perhaps with some reds/oranges.

What about the use of a cadeusus, or a medical staff somehow supporting an injured redwood? Orthopaedic surgeons fix broken bones…

I would like to see the use of more detailed scenery native to the area (Redwood trees/forest, bay, river, ocean). What would a more feminine and complex logo look like?

I would like to see examples of a logo like the starbucks logo with a central detailed image. Perhaps the circle could represent an award/gold medal.

Please eliminate mountains. There are no mountains in this area of northern california. Google, "Arcata, California" and "Trinidad, California" to see pictures of the bay, rocky coast line and huge, beautiful trees!

The logo does not have to be round, but I like seeing some diversity in design. I DO like the addition of color. Keep bringing ideas. Lets see something totally different!

I have added pictures of the area- the bay, the rocky cliffs and ocean and trees. Please use them in the design. I will be taking care of the community and also the many athletes- cyclists, bikers, surfers. Baseball is a big sport in this area too. I really like the starbucks emblom as well as the Stanford University logo. Please use creativity. I am open to many designs. Please remove mountains from the pictures! thanks!

I like the color in the new entries. I like color! Don't forget the red! This is also a sports practice and I would be interested to see other ideas incooperating sports. I like the circle, but also might like to see scenery behind the name as in example #6 and #18. Thank you for your efforts!

thank you for all the new ideas. I am still very open to new ideas and variety- lots of color vs monocolor, nature and sports scenes, complex vs simple.... all creative ideas are welcome! I'd like to end strong and have a variety from which to chooose! I think one of you will submit something that I'll say, "that's the one!"

I had requested an increase in days in the first or second day when I was having a difficult time changing some of my contest details and uploading pictures. It has been brought to my attention that it may make it more difficult for some of you because of the holidays. I had no intention of making things more difficult for the designers!

In my final selection I will ask friends and family for their feedback and I will try to pay attention to the order of submissions so that the artist with the original idea gets credit.

Over the next few days I will be looking for continued variety and am still open to original ideas.

With talented artists at work, I am really optimistic that my new business will be represented well by a really cool logo!

Thank you for your continued efforts!

Here's some "friend feedback" that I thought was interesting and brought up good points….

Hi There A--Reply from D. This is long and needs to be read entirely. #11 by tridoso is the ONLY logo currently available that I liked front he top 5. There is a narrow but important distinction to be made between a logo which is a sign or signal and some other form of information. For example, it is NOT itself a resume, geographic symbol, list of services, colorful art work, or some other type of optic cypher. To the imagination, cyphering (thinking) is to be eliminated. It IS something to be imediately pleasing to the eye, easily recognizable and remembered and relevant in purpose to your target population. The later would be potential patients who are worried, in pain, forlorn, incapacitated and/or otherwise suffering. I think they would want to see something soothing, nurturing, familiar, and easy to understand and remember--nothing too complex. Numero 11 leads with icons of a cradling green bough and ends with an actionable blue wave--these easily perceived in the imagination as the process to be desired. These two soft borders also suggest mothering (being taken care of) and your competent hands. It is a pleasant and attractive image to see when one closes their eyes and attempts recall. No sharp (knife) edges, red (blood) or too much to remember. It is not round like an intrusive eye. Other images with these simple but important qualities would seem possible but were not presented. It is imperative that patients and their families like it whether medical professionals might prefer it or not. It is not important that a person should be able to verbalize why they like it. Finally, I hope that the word "sports" is not too limited a term to the persons needing your services; the word might not be pedestrian enough. Thanks for considering this lengthly opinion. JMR

Another very different friend feedback, "I like the logo # 78, but think other colors would work better. Red reminds me of blood which most people have adverse feelings about and this is a medical setting we want people to come to, not avoid. If the colors were changed to orange and yellow, two colors that go well with blue, then it would be a more hopeful and optimistic tone. The blue of some of the other logos, to me, looks more like the ocean that is part of this physical setting. Perhaps two tones of blue, maybe with white accent to bring down the white of the upper circle would work well. There is a nice touch of white there now, but a bit more might create a greater feeling of movement. The brighter blue, to me again, adds brightness and optimist and hopefulness (about their treatment outcomes). The darker blue could remain to help "ground" the image. The mix of blues and whites could create a sense of movement, not only of the ocean, but of the runner and a feeling of future progress in moving forward in healing.
About "Orthopedics to get you back on track" might be catchier if shorter. Perhaps "Orthopedics + (+ as in the medical sign) Back on Track." This logo nicely fits with the runner/athlete. The + could be the simple cross or the six pointed cross or the medical symbol that has the wings that also fits in with the overall symbolixm. The only problem with the simple green cross is that not everyone recognizes it as a medical sign. The medical symbol with wings might be my first pick, but I would want to see in done before deciding. I am wondering about the shape of the logo. Perhaps a rectangular shape (not the arch) with it's broad side down would not only anchor the logo, but the ocean waves off to each side could be another part of the movement of the logo. The upper part might be best simple, or rainbow arched. This could be with or without the circle as the runner would stand out and the rainbow would "contain" it. What do you think Dr. Ross and # 78 Night Owl designer?"

Hi all… As I keep reordering the top designs, I am not trying to create confusion! I have realized that I do not want ARCATA to be larger or otherwise emphasized more than "Sports Medicine." Please also, minimize the cadeusus (snake) and cross sizes. As a sign of "medical" I prefer the cadeusus to the cross…. Thanks to all. Happy holidays!

I have just been notified that contest seems to have gone directly to "judging." I have contacted logo tournament and have requested 48hrs of open phase especially given that the holidays represent a unique challenge for time for all of us!

If I don't hear back from logo tournament, I will switch the #1 ranked designer so that those top 5 who are interested can continue to submit designs… again, please look at the uploaded sports jersey picture for style and color… trying one more look- clean, sporty, focused on color (blue, yellow with perhaps trip of white, red or green…). thanks!

Thanks for the new entries #129, #128. let's use cobalt or dark blue… how about putting all the color in the background, instead of it being white? Interested in seeing a sports jersey type look…..

Can we change the runner in the logos to red? Can the letters be outlined so if you take it off the blue background, it can stand on its own... Can i see a cobalt blue background?
