Our Ideas & Additional Information
Several approaches occurred to me as possible ways to get started...
Important idea: The central word (visually) should be TALKS because overall project is "America Talks Business" but then each city will also use the same logo, for example "Chicago Talks Business" so the logo needs to be "modular" for flexible use in these situations.
I also like the notion of putting the word "Talks" in a circle, inspired by examples like:
http://mainlineart.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_Network
Fonts: I'm very fond of Futura (regular and bold which are in the logo of my company http://www.doitmarketing.com)
Also fond of Helvetica and Helvetica Neue [in both heavy and light faces - as used, for example, in the ZagatWine logo here: http://www.zagatwine.com/ ]
Links to look at for inspiration:
http://www.TED.com (elegant, clean, strong red/black/white)
http://newyorkpost.com/ (heavy chunky fonts red/black/white)
http://www.bcorporation.net/ (Helvetica and circular logo)
http://www.smallbizdaily.com/ (square, stacked three words, red/black/white)
I'll be very actively involved in the feedback process, so please get started with your initial ideas and we'll work together.
Final tip: Don't "overwork" the concept. Overall, this needs to be SIMPLE, clean, strong, and credible.
Thank YOU in advance for your wonderful work!!!
