Medical Physics consulting group providing linear accelerator commissioning, remote radiation treatment planning, and specialized software development.
As Medical Physicists, we provide highly specialized services for linear accelerators used to treat cancer patients. We also perform 3-dimensional radiation dose calculations using specialized computer programs. Our clients are hospitals and free-standing cancer clinics. We work closely with physicians (radiation oncologists) or other medical physicists on the clinical side, and administrators on the business side.
Some of our services are one-time only (linac acceptance and commissioning), whereas other services may be on-going (radiation treatment planning, or monthly inspections of the linacs).
There are 3 branches of medical physics (therapy, nuclear, diagnostic) - our focus is only Therapy (i.e., radiation oncology).
Color Preferences
Blue, Green, or Grey. Suitable for display on a white or dark grey to black background. But I'm not an expert at this by any means, so feel free to be creative.
Our Ideas and Additional Information:
I would like to think about shaping the "A" (from Accelerated Physics) into a radiation beam, possibly diverging from the outline of an linear accelerator. See the following link for an example (but I don't like the cartoon look) http://radonc.ucsf.edu/research_group/jpouliot/EPI2k8/index.html
Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest:
~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage more participation. ~~ Ranking designs daily will also keep your contest from getting cluttered. ~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you are going to see. ~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested" ~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation. ~~ Ranking is a non-monetary means of showing appreciation for designers hard work. ~~ Designers earn points for ranked designs. We like to earn points.

Designers - Thanks for the submissions so far. I am really excited about the process and hope we are able to come up with a killer logo. A couple of initial thoughts:
1. I like the bolder, more saturated colors (no teal, aqua, or ocean blue). 2. Including the accelerator (#7) may be difficult. Consider using the top portion of the accelerator. The accelerator should not dominate the logo. Also, perhaps consider just the radiation beam without the accelerator. 3. I also like the "particle" concept in #3 and #6. 4. I would consider "cross-hairs" instead of an accelerator or beam to get across the idea of accuracy. 5. Take a look at http://www.d3radiationplanning.com/remote-treatment.htm
Designers - Thanks again for all the hard work. I'm still looking for a better concept. Hopefully together we can come up with something. A couple of more thoughts:
1. An element (square? circle?) to the left that appears to be "radiating" or emitting waves. Not necessarily large, more of a button (button-sized).
2. Our patients - and everything we do - is very 3-dimensional. Taking the example of the circle with the cross-hair in #31, I think it would look better as a 3-d sphere.
Designers -- I'm starting to see some really great submissions. Due to the number of variations of certain designs, I will try to make sure the top 3 - 4 spots have a different designer in each place. I will have to move some of the variations into the the "not-interested" category, keeping just the best variations. Thanks!
Whew -- these are coming in so fast now that it's hard to give feedback on every one of them.
While the "A" variations seem to lead the pack right now, I'm still not 100% settled on any design. This thing is wide open, hope somebody can knock my socks off in the next day or two!
Designers - We have extended the contest by 2 days. There have been so many designs that came in at the end that we have not been able to evaluate them properly and see the variations to settle on a final design. Sorry for the delay, but thanks for all the great submissions!
