Slogan
Equitable. Sustainable. Transformative.
What We Do
A2ZERO is a sustainability initiative for the city of Ann Arbor. The "Zero" refers specifically to the city's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, but also refers to other things the city seeks to eliminate: Homelessness, poverty, and inequality.

The audience for this initiative? The kinds of people who drive Teslas and Priuses. Ann Arbor is full of well-educated, wealthy people who are inspired by their status as leaders in the world of technology and sustainable industry.

Designers are definitely encouraged to draw on logos and design directions from these industries.

Here's a snippet from the plan's own description:

"Ann Arbor is home to some of the most creative and resilient peoplecommunities in the state. And yet, as we head towards greater changes in oura changing climate and more uncertainty in our economy, Ann Arboritesresidents from every corner are calling for solutions that ensure our community is a great place for all. go even further. We’ve heard calls for a just transition to a decarbonized economy, for growth patterns that enrich our neighborhoods the communities we already have, and for greater overall community resilience."

We like green as an accent color, but are not interested in having a logo that is exclusively green. Please explore combinations with other colors.

We are also interested in seeing human elements - either specifically people or the concept of coming together - without going too hard on the tech mood.

We are also open to superscripting the 2, and are happy to see logos that do not display the entire name. For example, logos that prioritize the 0 as the focal point of the logo.

These are all great! Thank you all for the hard work. It would be interesting to see some designs that really highlight the word “Zero”. This will be used in many ways and so would like to see some options where the word zero is the focal point and the primary designed element. Thanks!

Another thought on the emphasizing "Zero" is how we could use the font to start thick/strong/bold with the "Z" and then have it fade a bit or at least get thinner as you get to the "O" to represent the declining emissions on the route to carbon neutrality.

The "2" in "A2ZERO" is for the "Arbor" in "Ann Arbor" but it also can be a play on "to" as in Ann Arbor getting TO carbon neutral. Perhaps there is a way to incorporate an arrow or something that speaks to that journey and and the "to" in "2" more?
