What We Do
A Revolutionary Summer (ARS) is an intensive reading and writing program dedicated to shifting harmful narratives about Black people and Blackness. Our mission is to present Black children and youth with authentic, anti-racist images of themselves and to simultaneously remind them that they are more than those images.
We are led by a team of Black educators and artists with decades of experience executing
high-quality, specialized youth programming. We work with and advocate for Baltimore youth in our everyday, full-time roles and come together each summer to use our skills, talents, and deep love of Black children to deliver ARS. Summer 2026 will be our eleventh year in existence and our first year offering programming to Black boys. We need a logo that reflects this shift. Our current logo centers Black girls.

Color Preferences
Open to artists' interpretation, but please spice up any color palates typically associated with boys. This could mean brightening or deepening colors, throwing a dot of hot pink in there...whatever keeps a good balance between the feminine and masculine. Thank you.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We already have a logo for our girls' program. It contains symbols that represent key program elements, including a book (reading), light bulb (thinking), feather (writing), heart (connecting), and flower (growing). Please feel free to incorporate these elements in the new co-ed design. If possible, please also include a version with the tagline Black Children Freer Faster. We are not married to the idea of a tagline, but do want to see what it might look like. The quality and integrity of the design is more important than the tagline. Thank you for your work.
