Bear Threads
This business is a nonprofit that goes into inner city/impoverished communities (here and abroad) and
works with kids to create a piece of wearable art that represents an issue in their community they would like to see recognized and bettered. These articles of clothing are then sold worldwide and the proceeds go back into the community to help with the issue the kids chose to highlight.
The name of this organization is "Bear Threads", and the slogan is "The Right to Bear Threads". It's a play, of course, off the idea of the "The Right to Bear Arms" which was a colonial American construct used by the first immigrants to protect themselves and their communities. I am reappropriating this idea to kids who are similarly using fashion to fight for their communities against issues of poverty and lack of empowerment.
