Zizi Designs LtdLogo Design Contest

hello,
my first entry with a simple, powerful and distinctive typeface and accompanying dragonfly wing.
i wanted to keep the text really simple and bold so it stands out and is easy to read. the colours for the wing are inspired by African tribal dress, ceremonial costumes and the like.
any feedback would be great.

as you can see the design is still very functional and effective in black and white =)

Hi! these are refreshingly different and I thank you for submitting them. I could envision using the logo in its different versions (wing in different positions) as a little device to keep people guessing, especially on the web, thought it's not usual to do that.

Although I did not request earth tones, I find that I like them in the submissions that have used them. I think your sunset variation is also nice.

Any ideas for how you might handle the tagline Accessories from Africa? I am finding that I really like that in some of the submissions but it is not absolutely a must.

All in all a very strong design. I'll continue to think about it and look forward to any other ideas you may have

Hi Bugy, in consulting with my circle of advisors, my cousin, a young marketing exec and event planner in Nashville, picked your design as one of her top three. I respect her reasons and wanted to get back to you about the design. The reason I put it aside is that it reminds me of a quite famous logo, which one escapes me at the moment (a bit off the beaten track in Kenya these days!) but I think it might be a brand of sports equipment. Do you know what I'm talking about? I'm not trying to give you a hard time, really liked the logo but because I couldn't quite pinpoint what was bothering me I dropped it (Ok, I admit I am also very attracted to bright colours). Based on my limited recollection if what the other product was, I was cautious about pursuing yours because I was afraid others might have the same association. Can you clarify?

i have done a bunch of google searches and have also made a thread in the designer forums asking my fellow designers if they know of the logo you mentioned. no-one seems to recognize my entry as being similar to anything else they have seen and my google searches failed to turn up any logos at all based on a dragonfly wing let alone one that looks similar to this.

let me know if you have any more brainwaves regarding what logo it reminds you of, or if you want to see any other variations of my entry =)
