I went with a very simple design that leans towards high art i think. At the same time ceramics does involve working with your hands, possibly getting dirty, and very hot fires so I felt that i needed to give it something a bit rough and textured. I chose a light colour that's close to clay and stoneware ceramics and created a rough look across this that might evoke images of sanding something down or bits of excess material strewn across a workspace floor.
This design came about with a few things in mind. Namely a flame(representing the fire used in ceramics), a lump of clay, and just a strange organic modern art type shape that could be interpreted as any number of things. I felt the fade reminded me of perhaps hot materials cooling down into their hard ceramic state. Also i think the white "a" creates some interesting shapes within the slowly fading colour.
