Our Ideas & Additional Information
The farm is located where there was once the "Willow Bar Islands" on the Columbia River which was noted in the journals of Lewis & Clark as a stopping/camping point on their expedition to the Pacific. The gaps between the islands were filled in with dredge spoils from the river in the 1940's & 1950's so they no longer exist, but the farm is adjacent to their location. The Willow Bar refers to the "sandbar" in the river created as a result of the islands. On the property there is an iconic weeping willow which has been used for an interim logo. Additionally, the farm is located in the middle of a 12,000 acre wildlife refuge where over 1 million ducks, geese, sandhill cranes and bald eagles spend their winter. The surrounding wildlife is a big part of and a focus of our farming practices.
