What We Do
We are a well-supported medium-sized library in an affluent community. We pride ourselves on great customer service and keeping abreast of technology that relates to library services.

Color Preferences
We want the logo to look vibrant and fresh. The Library Trustees would prefer to leave color choice up to the designer. The staff had a preference for colors in the blue-green range. Our current reddish/brown web page colors seem old fashioned to us although we don’t mind the turquoise color, which is on the walls of our historic rotunda
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We want a mark, but we are not opposed to have accompanying words. We DON'T necessarily want a book in the logo, but if we have one, we prefer something stylized like these:

We like the Darien logo and what is written about their “brand” at the link below. This is the type of brand we wish to have as well:
http://www.geissbuhler.com/31263/236648/brand-identities/darien-library
We like the way the Darien logo has BOTH a mark and the name. They can use the mark separately if desired.

There are other ideas in the comments below.

Suggestions:
-city made of books

If using book in design we like abstracted and stylized and abstracted books like the Darien logo - rather than a realistic version,

We like playful and colorful as well - see uploaded images.

Open to any other ideas.

Like the elegance of this logo : http://logopond.com/logos/7f225acb4c8862d0150d2164faa36fce.png - still playful but very classy.

Like the playfulness of this logo:

-Perhaps instead of that orange heart - it could be a modified "W" and withing either books, shelves, anything that hints at library or education

Like the mark and typographic design of this logo:

Like the style of this logo instead of wine bottles would like to see book spines:

Librarians would like to see some variation of the following logos as they feel it doesn't limit the library's image (they want to see more than books represent them since they are more than that):

--but not in purple and instead of the abstract leaves a stylized "W"

--like how this expresses more than a book image

Would love to see variations of current designs based off of the feedback that I presented in the last comment:
