Here is one of my concepts. I've gone for something that's fairly clean and simple, yet striking. Creating an icon that works well within the logo or as a stand alone element, one that can be used for things like favicons or watermarks.
With the icon ... Its basically a cross made the letter "V's" from the name :)
The logo is 100% vector so will scale well to any size, and works well in full colour, B&W and on coloured backgrounds if needed.
It would be my pleasure to work up any variations so please do say. I look forward to your comments or thoughts.
Angus - thanks for posting! I believe your logo looks great, but my colleagues are not as keen. We're avoiding purple, because it's overdone in the Vineyard Movement. I'd love to see the design in a blue-based palette, or even green. Or any other color you think might would look good. The white background also looks great, but again - no purple. Hope this helps!
No problems at all, would be my pleasure! I'm about to get some sleep (I'm based in the UK) but will upload a few options first thing in the morning for you!
Angus - as you can see, you made the finalist cut. Great work. We're looking for the design to be flexible enough to move between all of the media applications we identified in our brief. This was one of the key items that disqualified many of your competitors. We love the simplicity of your logo and how it could translate into multiple environments, even changing color palette. We brought the white on orange version back into our ranking as an example of how flexible the graphic is.
So, what we'd like to see if the stretching of that flexibility through several more color variations. We'd like to see some color variations on #59 and 60 as well as #125 and 127. Additionally, we'd love to see color variations on #27.
Thank you for making mine a finalist - it's been a great logo to work on!
And of course it would be my pleasure to work up some colour variations! Can I ask if there are any specific ones you'd like to see, or on the other hand, don't??

Part of the challenge concerning color is we don't know what we might like, and so have been hesitant to be too directive.
Colors we're avoiding are purple and pink.
We'd like to see #27 with different backgrounds: Black, blue, green, gray, and brown just to see it's flexibility. And any other colors you think might be striking.
The same kinds of colors would work with the other logos as well: even red or orange would be OK if coupled with the right other colors.
That's ok ... we can definitely find the right combination :)
And here are a few potential combinations; #155, #156, #157, #158, #159, #160, #161, #162, #163, #164, #165, #166, #167, #168, #169, #170, #171, #172 and #173
And also showing that the white out reversed on a colour can also have some highlight colour in it; #163, #164 and #165
If you'd like to see any others don't hesitate to ask :)
Angus - you won! We'll be in touch soon to discuss a few possible variations on the design. We assume the 7-day period is for fine-tuning the graphic. Thanks!
That's fantastic news, thank you very much - it's been a great project to work on! And yes we do indeed have those days to fine-tune the final option :)
So, I'm going to sit down with my design team and determine any specific variations the team would like to see. I don't expect this phase to go for the entire seven days. This won't be color variations at this time.
While I'm working on that, here are the two requests that have come in so far, if you want to address them while I work with the team.
1. We'd like to see a "thinner" variation of the same design. We're curious what would happen if you made the lines and font a bit thinner.
2. We're curious about alternate fonts. Maybe you have some suggestions. I think we're definitely locked into san serif, but the team was curious about other options.
I'm not sure what other variations will be requested by my team, - possibly none. My goal, if your schedule allows, would be to conclude the contest by tomorrow.
Please let me know if you have any questions or clarifications. I'll try to be watching my email throughout the day.
RE the requests - of course, not a problem at all. I'm just away from my machine this afternoon, but will jump onto those options as soon as I'm back, otherwise will be first thing in the morning my time (have a 5 month old son thats a handful and evenings are my time to look after him).
With regards to changes ... For ease of viewing, I'll apply them to just one option, maybe the currently 1st ranked design. That way it keeps it cleaner to view the different versions.
And yes timing wise, I'll be behind my machine all of tomorrow so can definitely finalise tomorrow.
Angus - we're planning on using both the above and beside orientations in different applications. So, I'd recommend using #127, #59 and #126 as your starting point. Thanks!
Sorry for the delay ... had baby duties last night :)
So the revised options ... What I did was work on #59 for the moment, and experimented with the thickness of the icon lines and then also fonts. Once we're happy with whichever combination, I can then show the chosen direction in the other formats.
With the following 5, each time the lines get progressively thinner (plus a different font); #211, #212, #213, #214 and #215
Then with the next 8 I used #211, and experimented with different fonts; #216, #217, #218, #219, #220, #221, #222 and #223
And of course we can combine different ones ... so if you find a thickness you like and want a different font, just let m know and I'll combine them.
Angus - it looks like our team is leaning toward the original thickness on the emblem in the design. Can we see a few font variations based on the original weight of the emblem?
#224, #225, #226, #226, #227, #228, #229, #230 and #231
Some of the fonts do look very similar, but that's because the particular letters from the name "Vineyard" are letters that don't often change to much. But that said, there are subtle tweaks and changes :)
OK...we're settled. We're sticking with the original design. That just means you put your best version out there first! We have a graphics person on our staff - she just doesn't do logos. She's saying we need an EPS or AI vector file along with the font name. Is that what you were planning to deliver?
I'm just trying to make sure we've got everything in order before we conclude the contest. Will we still be able to communicate through the site once the contest is over?
Excellent stuff ... to be honest its always good to experiment with options! The site requirements are an EPS and JPEG, so no problem there :) And I can send over the name of the font as well! And of course we can definitely still communicate afterwards! Once the contest is over, the contract will have both our email addresses in, so we can chat that way, which might be easier and quicker.
On a side note, as its 19:21 here and I'm on baby duties, if you do conclude the contest today, I'll jump onto getting the final files done and uploaded first thing in the morning. Have a great rest of your day.
