Anna: I love the concept. I would like to try a version with my name able to be separate (for instance my logo will be on my for sale signs, but I'll probably have my name separate so it can be larger).
I love how you incorporated the fishing, although I'm not sure I love the red.
I asked a couple of people, and there is something about the fly fisherman that isn't quite working. I don't know if it's the posture, or what it is, but something just is a little off. I don't know if it would be better to have him (maybe her?) outside of the name so you aren't trying to force the figure to look like an I? I had one person who didn't realize it was supposed to be an I.
I don't know if it would work better taking the person out and having a fly rod as the I?
Another thought...how would it look to make a more normal posture fly fishing person on the right side, and have the fish either be the I or be the dot on top of the I?
This logo's flowing feeling and horizontal layout will look great on your website as well as printing materials. The logo is only three colors (two colors and even one color will work well too), which will keep printing costs down.
#110--I love the feel of this logo. It's clean & simple, but still elegant. I love the swoop underneath that finishes it and looks like it could be a stream. I also love the roof line with the chimney & smoke...it looks really comfortable. Can you make the white window gold, so there's just a bit more color to catch the eye in full color printing, but it can easily be removed for 2 color printing?
It's lost a little of the Alaskan feel, so I don't know if that can be put back in somehow. I don't know if we can put it against a faint Alaska state shape, or have a mountain shadow in the background, or have some other way to portray Alaska. I mentioned a lot of ideas in my brief, and I'd love your thoughts. I don't know if adding something in would make it too complicated. But since you are using the pink color, perhaps a small patch of fireweed?
The fly fishing person looks great on the top half, but for some reason the legs are a little off to me. I don't know if it's the stance. And he looks very masculine...is there any way to give it a more feminine feel? Maybe even a little more of a line drawing type person instead of such a heavy silhouette?
Obviously I don't want this drawing, but this logo gives you a feel of what I was talking about with the line drawing person: http://www.childbirthwithlove.com/
I'm very tired, so I hope these comments make sense! Thank you so much for working on my contest.
I'm really loving #112. It's clever, it's pretty, it's very personalized to me, yet it's not overly complicated and still only has 3 colors. Love, love, love the feel.
My only comment is I'm not sure about how my slogan is broken up. I think either my name needs to be on top and my entire slogan on the bottom, or the to needs to be moved up and just have Alaska Real Estate on the bottom.
If it were just my name on the top it could be larger.
I like it better where my name is larger (#116). I do want people to be able to see my name. I'm just torn whether I like the sitting on the rock version or the standing version better.
I'd like to see about maybe doing my name where it's a little more readable. This will be on for sale signs as well as my truck, and I'm not sure that the script font will be easy to read as people drive by. I'd love your thoughts on that. I'd love if you could play around a bit with the font and size for my name on the standing & sitting version.
One more thing I just thought of...I have a 3.5 year old boy, and a 5 month old girl. I like the child in the picture, but I'm thinking that maybe the logo should just have me and the dog so there's no sibling rivalry in a few years over my logo :-)
Here are two new versions. Because I made your name bigger and composed it straight across, I had to put in a subtle mountain in the resulting empty space (in the now more rectangular logo vs an earlier shape)
Okay, I'm torn between #129 and #127 (and I"m a little confused, because you referenced #128 in the prior message, but I don't seem to have a #128).
I like the dog and the woman better in the standing one, but I like the way the wording is and the clump of forget-me-not flowers and the fish better in the sitting one.
I do think my name is easier to read. I'm not opposed to it curving around the top of the fly rod, but I do think the script (while it looks nice) is a little harder to read.
Oh, I should have mentioned that I withdrew 128 because of a tiny fix I had to make, it's the same as 129. Just to note that when I tried to put this font along the fishing line, it did not look as good as the script, therefore I wrote it across, I think it's better.
Those edits are in the works - very fast and easy to make :)
I like the words along the fly rod, but I'm not sure if I like that better than the words along the top. My name across the top is bigger, but my name on the fly line gives the logo a nice shape that isn't square. What if you did the first letter of my 1st & last name capitalized and the other letters lowercase?
I extended for 2 days so I can ask people at work tomorrow (there aren't many people around to ask today). I love the other changes you made.
To make my final decision, I'd like to see my top 3 designs in greyscale as well as against a maroon background, since my truck is maroon. I'll upload a photo of my truck a little later. The Keller Williams colors are red and black, but I can put a logo against a white part of the sign.
If it's not too much trouble, I'd also love to see if you could take this design and make it slightly less complex...same feel, same idea, just a little simpler. I'd love your thoughts on this. I'm really torn between some of the great logos that look like artwork (this one included), and a more simple logo. Although one of the things I love about this is that it feels complex yet only uses a few colors.
One of the things I noticed in the process of making the logo is it looks equally strong with elements added/ removed from it. That's also the beauty of vector artwork, it's easily edited. So even without the woman and dog on the left wit will still look good. I will upload an example later on. But my point is, why have less, (as many boring real estate logos do, just google, you will see a stylized roof with four squares for windows) when you can have something a bit more stylized and unique, while still having a simple and strong logo.
As far as the wording along the rod, I think it looks good compositionally; better than with the words across, however the obvious sacrifice here is the size of your name. It is really up to you.
I do a variety of design work, anything from stationery, web, signs, illustrations, etc. I am not limited to only logo design. However I would be more comfortable discussing the specifics once the contest is over on LT.
I hope you understand. And I hope your coworkers like my work as well :)
I love, love, love the look of the one with the woman & the dog. It's very personalized, and looks great. However, from a practical standpoint, I think this newer one (#142) is cleaner, easier to see and a better logo from a marketing and branding perspective. It would be easier to see & understand on a sign and my car. What are your thoughts?
Yes, the fishing rod still gives the logo a unique feeling, while being professional and clean. The logo with the woman can have other applications, like stationery, business cards, I know people will remember you immediately with a more personal logo (all of my business cards actually have a drawing of me on them :)
But yes, perhaps you are right, on a car, this logo will stand out more.
I think the woman & dog would be great on business cards and my website, but on For Sale signs (which people are driving by) and on my car, I do think the simpler one is better.
If I pick one of these logos as the winner, would I be able to get both versions? I know I can ask for versions with dark backgrounds, greyscale, etc., but I'm not sure if you can ask for 2 versions of the same logo.
I like the longer end of the swoop on #145. It makes it look a little less like the Nike logo to me :-) Can you do that also on #142? I think the sitting version looks a little more like the clean version, especially with the slight background mountain. I think if I were to use a simpler version on signs & my car and the more complex version in print, they should be 2 that look the most alike.
I've rearranged all my rankings so I can compare all the similar designs to each other. Thanks!
Hi Anna. A couple of minor things. I think I like the sans serif font you used in #127 better.
I'm also trying to decide if I like the standing or sitting one better. I like the mountain in the sitting one, especially since it matches the more basic logo (#152) a little better, but I like the dog & the lower half of the woman in the standing one.
I'm also curious what it would look like with another color instead of pink....with the fireweed no longer a part of it, I'm wondering if a purple or some other color would look good, or if the pink stands out the best.
I'm also thinking the top lettering would look better than along the fly rod, and the longer swoosh on the bottom works better. I still kind of like the feel of #111, especially since I can take the more complex elements out to have a simpler version, so I was wondering if it would be too much with 2 children (maybe one standing and one playing on the ground?) I don't know...I'm so confused with all the options I've been given. This is way harder than I thought it would be.
I really appreciate you and your hard work. Thank you!
I'm so torn...some people love the logo with the children and thinks it makes me look more approachable. Some people don't like it because it becomes too complicated. I'm asking clients & colleagues their opinion, since at this point I'm honestly really confused about which direction to go. I have at least a dozen great options!
I do like the purple, but I think the pink color "pops" more.
Thank you so much for all your hard work. I appreciate you!
Hi Anna. Would you please show me #152 against a background that is similar to my car? I've uploaded 2 photos into the contest brief...it's basically a maroon color. I'd love to see what the simple version looks like on my car. I'm guessing you'd replace the pink with another color...my thought is maybe gold, which looks good against maroon and is already one of the colors in the logo, but I'd love to see your thoughts. I'd also like to see it with the Sans Serif font that you are using in #166, and with Real Estate a little larger like you have in #166.
I'd like to see #166 with the name across the top and in the pink (I like the purple, but I don't think it pops as well). I'd like to see it matching #152 as closely as possible so I can use it with or without the more complex elements. My parents think it's too busy with the 2 children, but most other people I asked really like it.
Hi Anna. I like the way the hot pink pops, and it looks good with the blue, but was wondering about any other color combination that might work. I'm not in love with pink, but I think in this logo it may be the best option.
The purple you tried was nice, but it didn't pop the way the pink does (although that may be because my name was smaller, and in the current version my name is at top). Purple & blue are sort of my web colors, so maybe another shade of purple that's a little brighter? You can see the purple we are using when you mouse over the menu (especially when you mouse over the sub menu it highlights the entire thing) at http://74.82.12.99/ . This is a brighter purple and perhaps it would pop better. I'd love your opinion.
I'm also wondering if you could work up another version on the maroon so I could see what it can look like. The light blue against the red reminds me of a photo negative...it doesn't work well to my eye. What if the logo were 2 color on the dark background....maybe gold & white? I'm just not loving the version on the maroon.
Got it, no problem Valesa, you can have as many color combos as you need. I also think any time you reverse the colors it will look like a negative, even all white on red will still look that way. I can try without the blue.
