Our Ideas & Additional Information
The logo should be the "Trachodon dinosaur". The concept comes from a play on my last name, Track, and the name of the real duck billed dinosaur, the "Trachodon". Even the cartoon Yugioh has created a dinosaur spelled "Trakadon". Our dinosaur should look cute, friendly, welcoming, fun, hip and sophisticated. Since our slogan is "Distinction Not Extinction" (which should be included in the logo), he should have that distinguished look. He should look sophisticated, i.e. top hat and cane; pipe & smoking jacket; at a computer; etc.

You can always Google "Trachodon" to get an idea of the real features of this dinosaur, even though the real thing doesn't look at all like I envision him. FYI, millions of children's toys have been based off of the Trachodon dinosaur. Also, something like Gon, from the Tekken video game series: http://images.google.com/images?q=gon+tekken

He is playful and baby-like (big head, big feet, a little chubby). Except of course ours would be sort of duck-billed. The great thing about Gon is that he is compact and could easily fit into a favicon.ico icon file if done correctly. So, the dinosaur itself should be fairly compact, not too long or tall. There should be typography next to him (which does not have to fit into an icon, obviously). However, we do NOT want something too immature...so it could be a sort of distinguished miniature dinosaur with some baby-like features.

ALSO, instead of a cartoon style, we were thinking more along the lines of the Firefox logo (except not on a globe, since that doesn't make sense...just the style). The firefox logo is great because it does not look cartoonish. It is very polished, and clearly vector-based and professional. It is simple, has no rough edges, is not overly complicated and has only basic shadowing -- perfect for the web, print and other media.

So basically a distinguished, duck-billed version of Gon from Tekken in the Firefox logo style, warm a cute, with a distinguished, sophisticated look.

Please read what I have to say below too... the only thing that's really different is that it should be less cartoonish.

I probably didn't explain myself well enough under, "Our Ideas and Additional Information:" so I edited my comment and am posting here:

The logo should be a CARTOON of the "Trachodon dinosaur". The concept comes from a play on my last name, Track, and the name of the real duck billed dinosaur, the "Trachodon". Even though the fonts were pretty cool, I had to say "not interested" since they didn't include the cartoon dinosaur.

We've decided to not use an emblem, as it will make it easier to brand the dinosaur alone in marketing pieces; as a tab in the browser; bookmark; tight spaces; etc.

This is just a thought, and I am not necessarily looking for this, but this seemed interesting... because the slogan is "Distinction, Not Extinction", he could look sophisticated like with a pipe in his mouth; smoking jacket; blogging on a computer; shades; etc. But always cute and disarming. Let your imaginations run wild.

My colleagues and I have been reviewing the amazing graphics, and we're absolutely blown away. The caliber is even greater than what I was expecting. However, although I have been leaning towards a "cartoon" looking dinosaur, the consensus seems to be that the logo should look cleaner and more refined. The following are from notes taken during our meeting:

For the dinosaur, something like Gon, from the Tekken video game series:
http://images.google.com/images?q=gon+tekken

He is playful and baby-like (big head, big feet, a little chubby). Except of course ours would be sort of duck-billed. The great thing about Gon is that he is compact and could easily fit into a favicon.ico icon file if done correctly. So, the dinosaur itself should be fairly compact, not too long or tall. You might want to extend the contest - that is a very different direction and at least a couple more days might be nice - I'd love to give it a try but time is always a factor for a lot of us who have day jobs too. MM

Yeah... I am going to probably have to extend it. I am actually torn, since I personally really like a lot of what has already been done. Perhaps cleaning up some of the already existing logos so that they looked a little less cartoonish, but more polished so that it is clearly vector based and can easily fit into a favicon.ico icon file. Ultimately I have the final say, and I am going to need more time to think about this one.

First, I would like to thank everybody who has competed in this contest for your hard work and extraordinary creativity. However, I would like to point out that only one contestant has actually followed my instruction completely, and that person is in the number one ranking.

Just to recap, this is ultimately what I have asked for all along:
The dinosaur is to be duck-billed, warm and cute, and either in a sophisticated outfit and/or doing something sophisticated.
