loving: the overall feel. Love the hollywood/dining-car feel.
words: Would like word "ticket" to be THE prominent feature (maybe it needs to be bigger in scale, maybe lose the outer shape, though it is really cool). the other two words, "the" and "kitchen" are less important to us.
fonts: Would like "the" and "kitchen" to be even simpler lines. Though the script feel of the font I like.
colors: Love the tones you chose (the blue is just right). However, I think we might want either: 1) a few more colors incorporated to look a little more Scandinavian, like the colors in these tights http://www.hannaandersson.com/style.asp?from=SC|10|2|24|56|10||, or 2) just one single color on white, a monotone type of thing
font: the font for the word "kitchen" is our favorite in #3, though if there were an even SIMPLER script font we'd love to see it
loving: we are loving the street-sign feel
for comparison purposes, we'd be curious to see: 1) the punched word "ticket" on just a white back ground. not sure what you'd do with the word "kitchen" though? (i guess that's why we're not designers). 2) some hand-drawn elements incorporated (see this collection of pictures http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc194/hancocklandrea/The%20Ticket%20Kitchen/), maybe the sign shape behind the word "ticket," maybe the words "the" and "kitchen." 3) the word "ticket" in lower case. we like the way the letters vary, with the ascenders.
loving: the simple shape in #5, #6, #7, #8 and that you managed to still keep that sign shape
words: love the scale of the words in #5, #6, #7, #8, that "ticket" is the prominent word
colors: love them
lower case: would be interested to see if the lowercase letters would work if they were a bit bigger than #8, spaced closer to one another, and perhaps made up of punch holes that are slightly bigger than the other punch holes
This logo is a lot of fun for me. Back in the day, I did an actual punched tin sign for my vintage clothing shop in Austin, Texas. It took quite a while to do. I still have it, now, slightly rusted, it resides on my deck. Thanks for your great feedback. Karen
Really like the punch size in #15. Can punches be spaced a little further apart?
We also are liking the lower case.
The simple font is great, though we'd like to see the cross on the "t"s extend only to the right, and not to the left. (Not sure why we want to see this, but we really do.)
We thought we really liked the shapes, but then printed this on our packaging, which will be a somewhat small flap of paper over a cellophane bag. the word "ticket" seemed lost in the shapes b/c the packaging is pretty little. not sure what to do?
I'd be interested in seeing a lowercase version (I feel like the shape of the lowercase word makes it more readable) with no outlines, just well-placed font. we discovered after printing out some desings on our packaging that it is very easy for the word "ticket" to get lost on our packaging. It is a small flap that will be stapled over a cellophane bag.
If it is easier for design purposes, "ticket chocolate" could replace "the ticket kitchen"
Thanks for all the feedback. I will work on fulfilling your wishes, but I am not sure about one thing... I had thought that you really did like the colors... should I change them? And you also wish to eliminate the outer railroad dining car placard shapes?
You are very correct about lower case letters being more easily recognizable. I taught typography for many years. We read by recognizing the shapes of words, and all caps simply becomes a rectangle, not easily readable. I will fix the Ts.
Oh no! We love the colors. (I think i pasted part of a comment on another thread about the lowercase. i didn't like the colors on their logo. i love these. I am SO SORRY! )
#40 is my favorite. LOVE the lowercase. LOVE the bigger punches. I would like either a simpler font for "the" if you use the words "the ticket kitchen" or just the words "ticket chocolate" without the word "the"
I do like the sign w/o the rounded edges. I loved them, but am afraid they make the words take second place to the shape.
I am not totally satisfied with the curly way the shapes end in #40 or the straight way they cut off in #39. Both of them draw my attention to the end of the shapes, where I would like that to not even be something you'd notice. I'm not quite sure what would be better though???
I do like the stitches in #25, or maybe it's just the thinner line I like
I'd like to see the word "kitchen" with more tracking, so it takes up almost the whole length of the word "ticket," but is still the same font size
you taught typography AND you've run a vintage clothing shop? that is so impossibly cool.
That's so funny! Even as you were posting your comments, I was not happy with the ends of the shapes and was working on it...I listened to what you were saying and remembered what my mantra was for my design students... less is more... and came up with this. I hope you like it.
ooh, ooh! I love #61. it keeps the vintage shape I've liked so much from your designs, and it makes "ticket" prominent, which I think we'll need for our teeny tiny packaging.
love the shape and swirls of the pink. it is just right. could it be done in double super-thin lines instead of dots? but still just the same shape? I really like the shape and swirls. love the blue dots at the top and bottom. could you make them maybe just a little bigger. just big enough so they don't dominate but don't get lost?
Could the punch holes be even a little bit bigger and just barely a little more spaced apart? (Is that a huge pain? I'm wondering if maybe it is?)
i would be interested, if you could manage, to see it both with the words "the ticket kitchen" and with the words "ticket chocolate"
Thanks for you continued wonderful feedback and encouragement! I really liked this one too when I came up with it late last night. It combines the vintage shape with delicacy... I have submitted two with double lines. Which punch holes are you referring to, those in the pink design or in the word ticket? I have been creating these punch hole by punch hole... anything can be done with time...
I hope you're finding time for rest!! Although I find sometimes my best work is late late at night.
Love #93! Love it. Would like to see the outline shape in two thin double-lines, and am curious if it could look like it is a stamp. I feel like the dots in the outline compete with the dots in "ticket"
We are going to choose your number 115 as our winner....but can you change the k to be like number #82? Thank you so much for all the time you put into this.
