thank you for taking part in my tournament. Only the 2nd time in ten years that I encountered the situation to develop and choose a logo. I have noticed again as the time did progress and favorite designs were starting to develop that the selection process to me became somewhat more challenging. As I have seen some very interesting approaches including their refinements.
Your proposal was very strong from the beginning. Well structured (love the theme of horizontal lines) and easily understandable at the same time. But at the end my final decision has led to a different design. I like to thank you for your hard work and for the fact that you’ve been willing to share with me your creativity, your flexibility for providing alternatives and time.
I tested layouts with other yachts, and different level of detail, but ultimately, there is no substantial difference in the concept of the logo. Eg #309 and #310
Maybe there are other aspects of the logo that can be improved?
Def better than KAOS - which was simply too big at the end of the day. If you like that kinda design line of this project then I would like to refer you to look at OKTO - the owner is a very experienced yachtsman. Also UTOPIA IV, ZAZOU, AVIVA and PHI. Thank you for following my guidance on developing this #296.
Oh yes, I remember the colors. Those were the days, a long time ago. We sailed a large catamaran from island to island. I'm sure we were on Tortola Island and also visited St Martin. Along the way, we also occasionally made motorboat trips to small islands. Who knows, possibly I visited Dog Island too. The Caribbean is a great place to be.
thank you. your corresponding #276 is also cool. you know what i notice in comparison with the others: it never really crossed my mind to ask you for alternatives on the font - because i do not consider it really necessary in your case. With others I ask them to reduce the size the two words "of the" and bring "caribbean" to the same size like "superyacht" in order highlight them. In your case I am not really daring to ask as I fear it will be in combination with your icon maybe too much to digest when looking at it. I enjoy the idea that the color of the word "superyacht" correspond with the color of the hull and same goes for the water color and "caribbean" - in the bahamas and the turks & caicos you can exactly experience this combo in reality at its best. in my neighborhood "dog island anguilla" you can find this too.
FYI I have just requested an extra three days extension, for every one in our finalist phase to have a little extra time for creativity on refinement, provided same is necessary and for me for careful consideration. Thanks for your good work so far.
As for the colors of Kaos, I struggled a bit. White hull and blue decks on blue sky. But if you don't mind the original colors of the yacht I can change them.
Hey, I just discover this one of yours. Longer yacht, more balance design from the the side view. By the number of decks I can tell we have now moved into the mega yachts category of "KAOS"...lol...why not..big is sometimes also called beautiful...however, I must admit in direct comparison with your #100 the composition of colors therein is a bit closer to me. But MW your #275 is an excellent addition. Especially for a person like me enjoying the pastel colors in the Caribbean.
To integrate the perfectly balanced yacht in your composition is challenging. Your #200 as a counter proposal has also a very nice stand alone icon. The rectangular shape, the shadow or better light source in the sky and the pointy hull with bow and aft section sticking out. Good work.
So, there we are. You came forward in the beginning with #100 and it remains very strong to me. Which tells me sth about your skills and competence. #242 and #243 siblings proving that too. #200 and #201 I am looking back and forth on two screens at the same time comparing in order for me to give you a feedback on them too.
Please, let me explain myself.
My approach was more "philosophical." It's called USP in advertising. Instead of choosing a location for another megamansion (his own place, "the usual" outstanding luxury, best exterior and interior designers, architects, superb craftsmanship) he/she can buy a superyacht ("his own place", "the usual" outstanding luxury, best exterior and interior designers, architects, superb craftsmanship) and drop the anchor wherever he wants. Hence "their place", wherever they want. And that's the difference. Now Caribbean sea, for the winter please, transfer it to Bali, we are going to spend NYE there. People are buying ideas, not a boat or a house. That's what I meant.
Please try to concentrate on the yacht design integrating nicely in your three horizontal lines. What I am trying to say is that I would prefer a different side sketch of the yacht. A different balancing of the decks. Appreciate that you had a look at "GO" and also that you have been inspired by her colors.
Doesn't work for me. Eventhough I really enjoy the sextant as an navigational instrument from the pre-digital times safely guiding generations of seafarers around the globe. However, there will be a good handful of people who do not know what it is. They simply have never heard about or seen it.
Hello MW, many thanks for your response and for the additional ppsls. I can understand your reasoning. It is correct by saying that they are looking for "their place". In terms of geographical location. But also with their yacht. Hence, I can definitely not share your point of view that "they are not interested in the boats as such". No. In fact they when they are building new they choose some of the best exterior and interior designers, naval architects, ship builders with superb craftsmanship. This group of wealthy people like to express themselves through architecture, design, sometime sheer size and art. Sometimes they just enjoying building a new project because the enjoy the challenge bringing the very best people of the industry together. And once they have taken delivery of it they start with the next one. Some of them are also controlling more than one unit. Because they can.
Good that you show monochrome black and white/transparent examples of your initial proposal.
Hello,
as for the end result... I started with the superyacht GO. This and some of the other new models have interesting lines of decks with interlocking arches.
I kept in mind the simplicity and versatility of your Antila logo and the Edmiston example. However, it turned out that the radical reduction of details loses this beauty. Also, the adopted convention of building illustrations with color patches required further simplifications.
BTW The #200 was another approach to convey these lines of the decks.
On the plus side, this logo can be colorful yet easily presented in BW, as a watermark or profile icon on social media. Please, check the additional versions of this not modified logo: #242, #243, and #244 for reference.
In conclusion, if you don't mind, I will prepare new, more detailed logos, trying to maintain the current style. As a side note, this logo is more directed to buyers or end users. IMHO they are not interested in boats as such. They are buying "their place", wherever they want. And I want to put them in that picture, hence the seascape ;)
I live in Europe (CET) but usually, work after hours.
Thank you for your thorough feedback, ranking, and additional info,
MW
Hello MW, as in inspiration for a good balanced design of a super yacht take a look at this one here, in case you would like this for some idea to when revising your icon: https://yachtharbour.com/yacht/project-jubilee-3469
Here we come to the next phase. I have taken a look at your alternative proposals. But still come back to this one here. I am ok with the colors. Although a bit too many. But they have their charm. Question is how does your logo appear when printed in black and white? Next topic is the yacht. The form of the hull shape is good, high bow and middle section, lower aft area. But I struggle with the shape of the decks. I understand that the curves to the lower aft area might bring in some motion. But at the end of the day no deck of a superyacht looks like that. The vas majority have a fairly strict symmetry with the decks stacking on top of each other. Maybe you feel like looking at some superyachts here for inspiration: https://www.superyachttimes.com/yachts
The horizontal like of the wave is ok for me. The line representing the cloud, or the cloud as such also would need some extra refinement. Don't know exactly what, but give it some change please.
On which time zone you are working from? Which part of the world?
Thank you for your input MW. I can appreciate the choice for the your proposal for the different colors, the horizontal lines, the shape of the vessel's hull with the long bow design and lower aft. And all this in a shape of a flag. Clever!
