Our Ideas & Additional Information
We are looking for an uncluttered logo/mission patch for an airborne based survey of artificial lights at night in the state of Arizona. This logo will be used in Power Point presentations, on technical report cover pages, and as a mission patch for project personnel.
The technical project involves using both up and down-looking sensors on a Cessna 182 aircraft to make nighttime measurements of ground and sky brightness. One goal is to measure the increases with time in sky brightness (diminished visibility of stars), and to simultaneously characterize specific light sources on the ground.
Our initial thought is that the logo format should be circular, but we are open to innovative variations.
We like the idea of including a representation of the aircraft, perhaps superposed on a background of ground below (illuminated by city lights) and the sky above, perhaps with visible stars. The sensors are effectively invisible on the aircraft and no attempt should be made to include them in the graphics. The project acronym is LAN MAP, for Light at Night Map. The sponsoring organization is STEM Laboratory. One design idea would include these identifiers in an annulus around the border of the logo.
This is an Arizona specific project. The Arizona state flag has a colorful, stylized sunburst that might be effectively modified and incorporated in our logo to indicate the Arizona connection.
