Our Ideas & Additional Information
Logo Creation Project Description: Develop one logo for the newly created "SEMA Award" which will be represented in three vehicle categories including the "Hottest Car Award", Hottest Truck Award" and "Hottest 4x4 Award". Each of the three awards will be presented to the winning vehicle manufacturer (Ford, Chevy, etc.) in each vehicle category at our upcoming 2010 SEMA Show. "Hottest" signifies the greatest number of like vehicles being displayed by SEMA Show exhibitors, signifying a trend in popularity of that vehicle. Go to semashow.com for more information about the SEMA Show, to sema.org for more information about the association and to semadigital.com>miscellaneous>logos for all show, council, show section and association logos). The SEMA Award logo must include the SEMA association logo (the last logo on the last page of the Miscellaneous >Logos section on semadigital.com), or a portion of the association logo, in the design, if not, it must look appropriate when the association logo is placed adjacent to the SEMA Award logo.

My preference is for the simpler two color designs.

Therefore using of elements of the SEMA association or show logos isn't working. Using just the word SEMA is preferred.

Another reason for this movement toward simplicity is that after the award the "SEMA Award" for "Hottest Car", "Hottest Truck" and "Hottest 4x4" are presented, it is SEMA's hope that the Original Equipment Manufacturers (GM, Ford, Toyota, etc.) will tag their ads for their winning vehicles with this logo.

So a little more sophistication might also do the trick given how clean and simple most OEM's ad are designed.

I'll be making specific comments on the logos that most closely meet this revised direction shortly.

I appreciate all the submissions and keep up the great work.

Thank you.

~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you are going to see.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested"
~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation.
~~ Ranking is a non-monitary means of showing apprecaition for designers hard work.
~~ Designers earn points for ranked designs. We like to earn points.

As we wind down to the last 5 hours of the contest we just had an executive meeting and here are some of the key points to consider in your designs:

1) Can you read it if its the size of a postage stamp and you standing at arm's length away from it?

2) Will it reproduce in all media including black and white newspaper and in reverse color? This favors a black one color design.

3) Are the graphics simple elements that might be used in the design of the trophy itself like the speedometer or the gear? The flame is looking a bit too "hot road". Our show appeals to other many other segments, not just hot rod.

4) Designs should use the font in the SEMA Association logo, not the Show logo, or the logo design should look appropriate if it is placed adjacent to the existing association logo.

Thanks for all the great designs and we look forward to the next few hours of competition and the results it will yield.
