Hello, spark as a negative space on a stone.

Hi, good instincts, and that could work, but we're sort of imagining more of a leap from the rock or stone instead. Also, if it helps, we want to try to avoid the Touchstone Pictures logo, since they have a similar sounding name as it is.

Thanks!

Will do, thanks! I have a couple of partners looking at them now.

Hey, just a heads up - everyone really likes your burning logo that's currently in the top three. They asked me to encourage more of this kind of thing - not because they want someone to out perform you, but because they're curious about seeing other versions of this look to compare to your current one. I know you put three of these already up (along with a lot of other great designs), but I thought you might want to think ahead, in case there are any similar concepts coming (since I posted that link earlier that you based your own on, and since I just sent out a general notice encouraging more of the flaming rock concept).

If you're game to try another one or two, you might want to consider one new version that is more flame-heavy than the current one, and one version that is more spark-heavy. That's just so we have some perspective.

As for me, I think your current one rocks. It hits just the right combination of the two extremes as it is. But I don't have the only vote.

Just thought you'd want to know ahead of time. ;)

Also - here's a more specific suggestion: would you mind showing Entry #46 in versions with two new backgrounds? First one would be the background you currently have in #44; the second would be a simple black background, or with maybe a slight glow or halo around it of some kind. People are interested in this one and I want to have different looks for it. You already have it in white, which is good. Thanks.

Thank you for comprehensive feedback. The example file is done with Photoshop and is raster graphics (not scalable without loss of quality). Here we have to deliver vector graphics which are lossless when scaling and for that matter some effects cannot be done one-to-one in vector graphics. I will try to get closer to that effect than my designs are now. One solution could be having a little simpler/flatter/clearer logo generally and later adding effects for it in Photoshop for different occasions such as different posters or even having the logo animated either in flash or more comprehensive 3D program where high realism can be achieved.

Okay, got it thanks. Totally understand, and no worries. Just use your best judgment then and we'll look forward to seeing what comes of it. Sorry to put you to more work.

No need to be sorry about me have to work more, that's what the contest is for. I just won a contest yesterday with 76 entries I submitted. Most of them were little changes but still, you've gotta work hard for best results :)

Hi, sorry for late revisions. I can do more after 10 hours. I will then try more similar style to reference file you posted. What do you think about the text part - do you like the font?

Client
Hi, no worries at all about late revisions. These look exactly as I'd pictured them, and I love the black background one. My only concern is what you were saying earlier - that these might not work as vector files, and that we might have to Photoshop them each time we want to expand somehow.

I'm wondering if you might be interested in showing us the best version you can of a vector file for the same concept? So far nobody has really done that yet, and it's what we're now hoping to see most. I mentioned it in general on the public message board, but I don't know what we'll get in return yet.

Let me know if you think that's possible, and also whether you think these will work as vector renderings. Thanks so much for your hard work, it looks really great.

Here's a suggestion, if you're interested -- I just looked at your portfolio and liked what you did as 3D buttons with the glossy light effect on the Diamond company you did and the Texas education company you worked on. We don't yet really have anything like that, so if it's more vector friendly, what about having a glossy 3D effect on a stylized flame around a rock of some kind, as you did with those? Sorry to shake things up like that, but I'm worried we won't be able to use non-vector stuff. If I'm wrong, or if it's too much to deal with, then no worries, we totally understand. Thanks again.

Hi! Thanks for comprehensive feedback. I apologize if I scared you with this Photoshop earlier and probably didn't express myself really well. What I meant was that this exact effect on Nike logo you posted was done in Photoshop. Everything you see here on my entries page is a vector art. A high realism can be created in vector but it just takes a bit more time. For example, a fire effect in entry #65 is achieved using something called the gradient mesh in Illustrator. It's fully scalable and everything. Only so called raster element on some of my entries is a slight yellow glow around the logo but it will scale up and done perfectly when such option is selected in Illustrator. For final files this effect can be expanded to gradient mesh I was talking earlier so all becomes legit vector. Or can be replaced with just vector gradient element like you see in #62. It's really forbidden here to submit raster graphics so you don't have to worry about that issue. I can't speak for others how well they follow guidelines but usually all designs you see on this site is in vectors, including my work.

I could probably make a very near impression to that Nike logo effect but I just have to think about it a little how to pull this off. I will also look into your suggestions regarding to my portfolio. I can submit new designs in a few hours time.

Thanks!

Entry #92 with little update in gloss part and black background. Full vector. Will try stylized flames too but these realistic ones came out quite nice. Full vector.
One question about my portfolio works: you wish for just a glossy 3D effect and no badge style, right?

Thanks!

Hi, took a bit longer sorry, hopefully you like the results. Now I became really close to the attached image effect, a meteor entering the Earth on #106.

Hi, I see you haven't ranked my new designs very high. Was something wrong with them or you prefer simpler approach? I could try some revisions on entry #62 perhaps? Or explore some new way or your suggestion that I missed so far?

Thanks!

Hi, we liked your new designs a lot - we haven't been able to rank or comment much in the past day and a half because we have been showing everything to other partners during that time to get their opinions first. This is why there are a lot of designs that remain unranked, even though we like a lot of them. Now that we have a better sense of what everyone likes, we can be more interactive again.

We have now ranked our favorite five designers, and you are one of them. We will be moving the design order around a little, but we pretty much like everyone equally so don't read too much into that at this point.

We'll have some specific suggestions coming very soon as we finish collecting opinions. Thanks again!

Here's one specific comment -- the lighting effect you put in below the fireball on #106 is really interesting, but the fireball itself might be a little bright and washed out for us. Is there a way to show one or more of these designs to be less of a fireball (we did ask for that, but we think we have it from you with #62) and perhaps more of a rock just begun to catch fire?

Think of a match head just as it erupts - except it is a stone erupting. And please do keep the lighting effect below the stone and above the company name in #106.

Thanks.

Great, thanks for feedback! I will be posting improved designs later today. New fireball was very bright because I tried to get to as close as possible to effect you posted. I will work on that a little more.

Okay, got it. That makes sense. Actually, I was more referring to the fire effect outside the edges of the design example I posted, rather than the white hot element within. My fault, since I wasn't clear.

Since you might be adjusting that now, there's one more thing that we are talking about wanting to see somehow, which is a sort of molten rock look to the stone itself. Like the way lava looks when it is cooling on the outside, but burning hot in the middle. Is there a way to show that somehow in the stone? If you want to see examples of what I mean I will try to find something online and link it.

And keep the curved glow line below, if you can. That looks cool!

Thanks again for your hard work!

Ok thanks for clearing it out. I will make all kind of variations including this new molten rock idea. Yes, please refer to the image of that lava theme. I will search for some myself too.

Thanks!

Okay great! Here are a couple of examples that we're starting to talk about:

http://www.protrails.com/lexicon/term/462

http://www.geologyclass.org/Igneous%20Concepts.htm

Or something like this. But we love the spark effect you have already rendered as well - so if there's some way to combine them, it would be really interesting to see. As long as you are at it though, you might try one with the flame/spark effect you already have, and one where it's just the rock, if that's okay. Different partners have different visions so we are trying to make everyone see what they are describing before getting a consensus. Sorry for the hassle!

Thanks again.

Hey, can we see #123 with a white background as well? Thanks!

Thanks! I like it myself a lot, too. So energetic and powerful. Transition to white background is something I need to look into a little longer. All the blending modes that were used to create such effect work with bright objects against dark background. With light background they disappear. I tried to retain the look of the logo in #127 but it loses the contrast which is was effective against dark background. I can imagine the logo in dark cinema would look astonishing.

I just realized I forgot to add the 'Earth line' to white bg logo, will add that now.

Maybe you can lift me to rank 1 for a little if possible since only first ranked designer can submit now and I had some designs left waiting to be submitted. Sorry to be that late! Had a very tight schedule today.

Entries #130, #131 are maybe a bit raw yet since I was working on them on last minute.

Thanks.

Hi, sure, would love to see! The real order is still waiting as we talk to partners and others, so we'd love to see what you have waiting. I'll switch it around right now, so go for it!

Thanks

Hi, we're going to have to go back to the original order soon, since people here are getting confused about which images others are referring to (some refer to old order, some to current).

We're happy to have you show us more, but we'll have to go back to the original order pretty soon to avoid confusion during the judging process. Just an FYI.

So sorry, eMp, but we can't wait any longer, as our partners need to move on with this decision and it's been almost 24 hours.

We are very grateful to you for all the hard work you put into the contest and wish you the best of luck!

Thanks again.

Hi, so sorry I couldn't post any, when you put me rank 1 then I was sleeping and went out early coz had a car repair to be finished asap, I hope it didn't cost me this contest...What do you think might the order still change or have you decided to go with other design already? I received one private message from one designer congratulating me on this impressive logo and asking how did I do this. Quite a compliment!

Hi, no worries at all, and I'm sorry about the car issues. You did a great job, and we really loved the work you did. It came down to a combination of a group vote among people on my side, and with the opinion of our web designer, who will be using the logo in different ways.

That's awesome some of the others are congratulating you on that one, and it's totally deserved. I'm sure we are going to wind up seeing that thing on someone else's billboard one day and then will totally kick ourselves, saying it could have been ours. I totally bet that happens.

Good luck and thanks again!
