What We Do
Sou’westerly is a new company re-inventing the iconic Sou’wester hat (and in the future have plans to develop other wet weather/ beach clothing). Sou’westers can be traced back to the late 1700s and were worn by fishermen in foul weather and were named after the prevailing Southwesterly winds that typically carried rain. The short upturned front brim acts like a gutter and carries the rain away from the face while the long back brim prevents the wind and rain from going down the sailor’s back.
We take the original style and combine it with new high tech waxed cotton or canvas and our signature is the vibrant, colourful cotton on the underside of the brim.
These hats are for festivals, dog walking, holidays, the school run or indeed anything that needs a wet weather hands-free option. There is a Sou’wester to suit every occasion - whatever the weather.
Our Sou’westers are manufactured in the UK and we are keen to promote and support the UK textile and manufacturing industries. We want to encourage quality not quantity - our Sou’westers are designed with a purpose and are beautifully made to be worn and loved for years to come.

Our Ideas and Additional Information:
We are keen to have a picture that we can embroider onto clothing as well as the name - ie the logo can be used in it’s entirety or just the picture/icon. Simplicity is important
