#7 by TNSGraphics: nice; I really like the placement of the tree with the company name exactly like you have it next to the tree trunk and over the root. I like the line leading to "llc" but could the "llc" and line be black in color and the "llc" more at the end of "SomethinGgreat" instead of underneath? Could you make the larger "S" and "G" perhaps a dark blue color with some nort of effect to make them stand out even more? The tree top is nice with the layers. Could it very gently resemble a vague "S" and "G" somehow in the tree top layers and have the "S" on top and "G" under it with the "G" layer be a redish color (more fall colors)? Perhpas the tree trunk can have a depth/reflection look to it to make it look rounded? Overall you did a great job following my ideas. Good work.
Hello, This one has some more red, shading in the tree trunk and the blue S and G. I had actually been playing with making the canopy look like an S and a G, as well as another where the trunk does. I'll post those soon so you can see what they look like. Thank you, Tim
#9 by TNSGraphics: I'm off to visit relatives, but wanted to respond that I may not have communicated just right. I like the new depth of the tree. I like the black line - also perhaps the letters "llc" black (I like the new position at the end of the name). For the tree top/leaves/canopy I was thinking that the layers you have could be different color schemes: I like the yellow/light orange for the front layer (possibly "S" vague shape), then the lower levels different with more reds/browns, just to give it a variety feel. I also like the "S" and "G" blue and perhaps a little depth to those letters? Thanks.
#11 #12 and #9: For #12 I like the blended trunk and black letters "llc" but the rest not so much - other lettering too blocky and not like the colors (want dark/royal blue and would like gold if workable). Canopy/leaves too busy and too obvious SG. For #11 basically the same. For #9 it would be nice to add blended trunk and black letters "llc" and I like the layered canopy/leaves with some ability to see through the middle as if many of the leaves had already fallen. I was not thinking of the actual letters "SG" but more the shape of the canopy layers - the top layer bent to vaguely resemble the shape of "S" but still the lose block shape you already have (take the top and switch the upper first curve). Then the two back layers shaped so that together they vaguely resemble a G (the colors of the leaves also giving a distinction). For the canopy/leaves I was thinking of something that requires some effort to see at first but when you do, you can't miss it. The "S" and "G" in the name like #9 font but perhaps something like embossed?
Great feedback, thank you very much. I understand what you mean about too busy and making it vaguely resemble the letters instead of going for the stand out approach. I have a couple I'm working on to show the sublte option. Thank you, Tim
I really like your original shapes for the canopy because they are strong, solid, and extend over the name without being to "busy". My thought was to keep the shap of the top layer except to flip/turn the upper part around so the upper part of the top layer faces "forward" and the bend of "S" is only in the skinnier middle part and very slight. The two back shapes when looked at together already kind of look like a "G" in that the far back layer makes up the top of the "G" and like a hindge at the middle of the back curve, the middle layer forms the bottom of the "G" with the tag inward, while keeping the right side large "tongue" looking part that extends over the name. Very, very subtle is ok. I wonder if a little green included (between summer and fall) would help. I also looked up fall leaf colors online and common is a dark brown/red color. I sure wish there was a way to draw something and attach it as a scan to this comment.
I also don't like yellow letters since it is so hard to see, especially for those with vision issues, when bright outside, or whatever. Perhaps black or dark blue (I did like the orange color of #9 that matched some of the canopy). The name should be readable when put on the side of a hot air ballon and a distance away. But not blocky since it also has to work on paper / website. The "S" and "G" standing out since I often abbreviate the company in unofficial communication as "SG" already.
I like the trunk when you had it darker brown, a more contrasting color to the lighter canopy.
If a "SG" in the canopy does not work, then what do you think of something to the left of the tree. My first inpression is that is too busy, but you are the expert.
It must be hard to try and use words to communicate about art. Thanks.
Thank you again for the feedback. It can be hard sometimes but that's the nice thing about being able to post a lot of ideas. I'll post another this evening based on the latest.
#24 #25 #26: still a little too obvious. What I wish I could do is take your #9 and physically lift the top layer and bend the top part 180 degrees to the right with a very slight bend in the middle (I do like the shape you had as is), then just rotate the back layer counter clockwise so there is a slight opening in the middle, and for the middle layer leave as is except pinch and pull to the left the little bump that looks like the tag in the middle of a "G". In my mind I can see it working perfectly. I so like the elongated look as if the wind really has pushed the whole tree to the right over the name.
I don't know if it is possible to have each canopy layer a slightly different color getting darker the farther back (your yellow/orange on top, your orange/red in the middle, and a red/brown for the back) but still blending since it is one tree.
Text: perhaps the letters dark blue but with the "S" and "G" black in a different font (something not so crisp and keeping more with the nature feel - softer). Then have all the letters look like they are coming out of the page slightly (I think that is called embossed).
Hello, This is the same tree as #9 with the top layer switched to suggest the S. The previous 3 new red ones also have just three layers, but I changed the look of the tree a bit in each just to show you some variations. This one keeps the G the same, and makes the top layer suggest an S while keeping the "flow" of the original tree. Thank you, Tim
Hello, I think #33 and #34 are subtle now, but I just thought I would try another approach to making the "s". Instead of reversing and re-working the top layer in this one, I just added another to make the upper half of the "s" and keep the original upper layer shape as the bottom of the "s".. It made the tree taller, but that worked with making the S and G taller in the text as well. Just another option. Thank you, Tim
#40: I like the shapes. I also like the basic colors of the layers.
I'd like to see the line and "llc" in black, but wanted to ask if connecting the line with the tree root and making the line and "llc" dark brown to match would look OK?
The "S" and "G" needs to be dark, dark blue (royal blue).
With those changes I'd like the "S" and "G" and tree/canopy to be 3D / depth if possible.
#42: oops, the canopy lost the colors I like in #40, try to stay with those colors as close as possible (really keep the brown of the farthest layer). I'm sure you did this one before seeing my comments to #40 so I won't repeat. Thanks.
Perhaps I would not get confused if we "ping - pong" back and forth now that it is real close to what I'm thinking.
Start with #40 and change the underline and "llc" to black and the "S" and "G" to dark, dark blue (the SG of #35 looks rather dark blue).
Thanks.
PS: the 3D idea you have looks like they were cut with a cookie cutter with the hard edges and perpendicular depth (both the letters and canopy). Is there a method to make it a rounded look, bulbus, think large fluffy clouds rounded edges (I remember when I used to play with Photoshop there was a feature of bevel/emboss that made it look like the letters came straight off the page directly toward the viewer)? I like the idea that the 3D effect makes it look like the items are coming straight forward out of the page. But you don't have to do it on the next version, lets get the colors right and then do the depth.
I apologize if it is my eyes or monitor, but the underline (the straight line under the name) and "llc" look gray (doesn't look the same color as the black text) do you see that and is there a way to make it black?
Depth: do you have the ability to make the depth of the tree and canopy come directly forward from the page with rounded edges? Perhaps testing it on one party of the canopy first (the top layer if easier)?
Hello, I think the line might look gray because it's very thin and the image size here is relatively small. I doubled the thickness and that seems to make a difference. I'll work on the rounded emboss. Thank you, Tim
#50 the line and "llc" look black now (I like how it balances the name). I like the form and colors. Now the 3D rounded / depth issue to make it look like it comes directly forward toward the viewer.
#51 #52 these are more in line with what I was thinking. I prefer the deaper and more variable #51. If there was a second depth to the inner part of each layer that might be even better (right now the edges are well rounded and deep but the middle of each layer is flat). I'd like to see similar depth to the tree trunk. I wander if there is a way to make the "S" and "G" have depth without losing the crispness?
#53 I think the tree looks great. Now, I wonder if there is a way to make the "S" and "G" stand out a little more (other than font, size, and color) without compromising readability.
Hello, This one has the S and the G "shaded". The letters are so thin (looking at a 350px x 280px image here), that any shading more than just a thin line of color will make them look a bit "fuzzy". Thank you, Tim
#54: looks great. With the shaded letters it shifted the name to the right and now the "llc" is partially covered. Can yo move the line and "llc" a little to the right so it has the same spacing as #53 (with the "llc" to the right of "great"). Other than that I can't think of any additional changes. If you have ideas that would be fine, but I'm not asking for anything more.
Hello, There was one other thing I wanted to try, which was to replace the line with a shadow. So, just another option I thought I'd post. Thanks again, Tim
