Hi Bill, thanks for all your work! We love #249, can we see some alternative fonts? the "e" is a bit hard to read.... And may we see them without the slogan please?
One quick question. Are you open to other fonts besides Scripts? (Or, must it be a script?)
There is a nice san serif called "Guest Check" that is used on those small diner checks (tablets, the small green and white traditional version) that some diners still use! Maybe that might be worth seeing??? Probably not as striking as the script but may be more Retro looking ?
I fixed the "e" on #322. I agree I it's much better.
I tried to give you a nice variety of Scripts, I had explored some San Serif fonts and alternate ideas, but I didn't like anything as much as the look and feel of script fonts. I also tried to keep all the fonts with good thick curves and ligatures so you won't have any problem reproducing the logo on Packaging like small boxes, bags, wrappers, cups, napkins, etc.
Again, all fonts are very much a taste issue, so if you have a font in mind I would be glad to try it for you. Of course I do alter the look and feel a bit ... stretch and bend, etc to get the look I like.
For what it's worth I really like #326 and #325 because they are a bit funky and unique, but then I think something more squared like the original $322 with a better shaped "e" is still an excellent choice and unique enough.
Hey Bill, sure we're open to any creative script suggestions you may have. We just got a load of script fonts, so we started ranking those. But please feel free to inspire us! I agree, #326 and #325 are quite eye catching :)
Hello Bill. we were wondering if you could possibly share with us some other creative design concepts that you might have at this point. We like your work and we thought if you could come up with another creative logo/style. We just want to make sure we are making the right choice with our logo!
No problem...I will surely give it some thought and see what I come up with!
I think the best direction would be explore some new accent or support around the existing script/typography ... Because to me the script font in #326 or #325 is a perfect branding solution to give the look and feel of the classic diner but at the same time be unique enough to look original (in other words, it's not a traditional script font that everyone else uses ... "off the shelf")
With that said I also love the black and white "checker". It is visually powerful and there is almost an immediate association to food. Black and white tiles were probably used in every diner that was ever built (in some way :) so it's probably etched in our brain and associated to the warmth of comfort food, even if we don't know it!!
I'm thinking I can use the black and white concept in different ways that will be equally as powerful as the traditional circle. At least thats my gut reaction at this point.
Also, I am a big believer that logos must work well in one color. I love to use gradations, shadows and 3D effects, but you always need a good foundation when trying to use your logo in some real world applications. For example, if you wanted to etch the glass on your store front window, you would need a solid one color logo for that to be most effective, you could never reproduce gradations, shadows or 3D effects.
I've posted the 1Color logo version for #326 so you can see what I mean.
I'll start working on other designs for you. Thanks Bill
Hi Bill, yes you are very right and I can tell you speak from experience. The Black and White is indeed very eye-catching, classy, and has a total diner feel. However, we are rather intent on having some colour in our logo. We love how u mixed red yellow black and white for your entries. You have made a "memorable" logo, and that is all one could ask for.
All I can ask for are for more variations on #326, with regards to font (and yes we appreciate the non-traditional fonts you ahve foudn for us) and perhaps on layout design. Again, we are very happy with it as is, but I'm curious to pick your brains some more :)
Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you, I just meant that the "foundation" of any Logo should work as one color. I would alway use a branding color!! (which in your case I think you are correct in picking the Red/Orange families)
Just posted some new ones. Still working on others and looking for alternate font treatments.
I also made some adjustments to the "weight" of checkerboard circle, I think it looks much better. It seemed kinda weak in the original designs. The more I looked at it I felt it needed to be fattened up a bit!! I think the new circles in #350, #351 and #352 are much better balanced!
Hi Bill, thanks a million. I'm going to bug you with a few requests. I'm lost as it is, so I'm going to list them in point form below so that I dont get more confused LOL
But in general, please keep in mind that we want all the new logos to have the following: - the text to go "across" like the first ranked logo #326 and not slanted upwards like #356 - the font of #326 - do not want any orange fonts like the ones in the new submissions. red got under our skin :)
So here we go: 1) can we please see #373 with a thin circle, like the first logo? 2) can we please see #373 with only red colour font (no orange outline)? 3) can we please see #373 with a thinner orange outline on the font? 4) can we please see #373 with the last "s" of #325?
perhaps when you post your comments, you can link the logos to the 1-4 numbers so that we can understand the concepts clearly
#381 Thinner circle, I still like the thicker checker tile circle better, but then again thats a taste issue - there's no right or wrong. Nobody will ever notice the difference. The 3 color combinations are great (I would choose PMS colors: #123 (yellow/orange), #185 (red) and Black) ... the yellow/orange outline is a 3pt rule around the Red inside.
#382 Solid red type, don't like it. Believe it or not it's the same red as #381 but the outine adds much needed depth and excitement.
#383 Thinner outine, This is a 2pt outline. I've been using a 3pt outine. As you can see, because its a light color (yellow/orange) it gets weaker the thinner you get. I would not go any thinner than this 2pt outline.
#384 New "s", I REALLY like it better (I'm alway one to go simpler, less gingerbread :) it will always age better. Even though some my logos may seem active and busy -- if you examine the shapes within the logos there are always fairly basic. I do like this a lot. I've also shown the outline rule at 2.25 pt (maybe we could try a tad thicker outline at 2.5pt if you like this direction), plus I've shown it in #385 with the thicker checkerboard since I liked it so much!
#386 is basically the same as #326, only difference is the new "s" and the yellow/orange outline is a tad thinner - 2.5 pt instead of 3 pt. and the name if beefed up a bit :-)
Hi Bill! Yes, let's please use #386 as our example for font (love your simple s) and layout. However, we want it in solid red font, one with a gradient and one without. And also, one with thick circle and one with thin circle.
Can we see all the above combinations please? We are coming to a decision real soon :)
