Getting there. Try it with lines that look like streets (roadmap). Also I like the colour difference between 'sky' and 'maps'.

sure. I'm a little unclear on "flatten the globe" do you mean like more of a horizon perspective? i will try a couple things to make sure we're on the same page

Would you be able to flatten the globe and make it more grid-like? Also take out the reflection.
Maybe also try and example with a more square icon as well?
