Hi :) I finished up on of my bigger jobs a little earlier, so I wanted to try and get something in. Custom filigree & ampersand. #29 is just beefed up a touch and minus the second color.
Josh, Thanks so much for fitting us in. We're thinking they are a little too cutsie with a lot going on. The & sign gets lost in the filigree in our opinion. The shape of the K is a little funny too. Can you also look at the last two comments on the brief page. We linked some vintage emblem styled logos that might help.
We like a two color option, but I think we're leaning towards more of a contrast, with some things being grey and some being orange or blue.
Hey josh! If we put you in the top 5 after today i think that gives you a coulpe of extra days to play around. Does that help w your schedule at all? Trying to stay a bit loyal to you :) Thanks!
Found it three times actually :) No ones been able to nail the shake or cone graphic. Too vector looking for most of them. Closest lookin was husk with #12 and #19.
Overall we like a logo that looks good with several elements. As a whole, maybe it looks good on a shirt. Maybe we just use the SHAKES&CONES text for the building sign. Maybe we use the shake and cone drawings as stickers and icons.
We really like hopdoddy and their "feel". Check out their webpage. Www.hopdoddy.com
no worries! I'll make sure you're in our top 5 and we'll keep you around for the top 5 period and judging time frame. That should buy us a few extra days to work with you :)
#120/ #121- we're kind of digging this new concept! love the cone and the shape of the ice cream. specifically for #121- it seems like the cone and the soft serve banner are the emphasis and the actual company name is secondary. Can we see the Shakes & Cones part bigger for this design.
And, can we also see a new design with the location of the banners swapped? After you switch them, is there a way to make them look good without the hanging part?
:)...actually - it was more like this style of cone (the kind I think of when I think of soft serve) http://goo.gl/T75Khz
Yeah...I thought the hanging part might add a little whimsy, but it seems kinda "extra"...I'll work on some revisions based on the feedback. I don't have a shake illustration, but I can draw one up to match :)
Here's a new version with a shake and more emphasis on the name. I've not played with the color too much yet, so if you'd like to see something just let me know (...or any other revisions)

Josh..thanks for the options. Still feel like the name is low and last. Can we try something with it somehow above the organic text? See comments from mar 1st at 655pm
#135 / #136 Here are some straight /almost straight across versions
#134 / #137 / #138 I liked the simplicity of this idea. By putting the ampersand in the middle, you get a graphic version of "Shakes & Cones" when you read the pictures left to right, or a textual version reading top to bottom.
I'm still playing with an idea in my head though that we haven't quite hit. I'll be specific...
use the shakes and cones banner from #121, make that front and center. use the cone and shake drawing from #135, put that behind the banner, larger. use the organic soft serve banner from #121 and place that at the bottom, near the bottom of the cones and shakes....
does that make sense? Maybe it wont fit, and I'm crazy :)
Thanks Josh! for #139...can you move the shakes and cones banner up a little bit, and then make the organic soft serve banner a bit bigger, and have it overlap the bottom of the shakes and cones banner?
How's that? I drew a new small banner that wrapped the shake / cone and went around the large banner...put a little perspective on it. I'll be in & out today, but I should be able to make any more revisions. Thanks! :) josh
Thanks Josh! I think #140 is looking pretty sweet. one last small revision...can you make the word SHAKES and the word CONES a little bigger. They don't need to be quite as a big as the ampersand, but they are a little dwarfed by it right now...enjoy your day!!
I shrunk the ampersand a bit and increased the text slightly - but it's sort of a tricky. SHAKES is visually longer than CONES, so I kinda had to play with the kerning to get the ampersand middle-ish. If it gets too big within the banner, the ampersand gets too far off-center. (I'm trying to keep in centered so it can also sit between the shake/cone graphic for better logo cohesion, if that makes sense) That said - I think decreasing the ampersand size helped achieve a similar end? Thanks again for your time & feedback :)
I like it! ok don't kill me, but now one more change to #141 can you make the bottom ribbon, the organic soft serve ribbon, a little wider. the ends where it doubles back are fine, but maybe the middle section, make it a little wider and spread out the organic soft serve text a little bit.
I think by doing that you'll reveal a little more of the cone and shake drawing bottoms, and it'll make the words organic soft serve a little bigger, spaced out....
not a problem at all :) maybe I can change the font to something wider so we can thin up the ribbon that way, too. Then it can be wider / thinner but possibly more legible? I'll try it both ways and see.
I'm leaving for lunch and then a few errands (my oldest son is off school for Casimir Pulaski day, but my youngest still has preschool at noon), but I'll be back mid-afternoon.
just the font of ORGANIC SOFT SERVE...I'll keep it a sans serif with a rounded edge, but I was thinking a wider font instead of the current narrow font
I ment for the organic soft serve font...don't stray too far. We like your current font, but if you can't spread it out, then maybe we find something similar, or a little wider. I was saying, for the organic soft serve text, we also like the style that #102 deux used...
yeah,I'm looking at some squat, serif fonts too - just in case the combination of the two sans serifs was too dissimilar. I think the squat serif fonts' legibility can be affected at smaller sizes, so I was going to try the sans serif (I'm thinking ITC Blair with some softening) first.
hi :) We're back. Yeah - that line on the cup was left over from the band on the outside of the cup. I took it off (Unless you were talking about a different line). I did both a serif & san serif font for you to look at. I think the san serif is stronger visually, but I'm wrong all the time - so I'll let you decide :)/
nailed it! #144. Thanks for the updates. I can't see anything else to change with this right now. We're having a small meeting tonight or tomorrow...I'll be pushing hard for this one :)
Real quick for #144- can you play with the shake and cone drawings and extend the bottom of the shake and the cone a bit more below the "organic soft serve" banner. Basically, so a little more of the shake and the cone stick out the bottom.
Thanks Josh! I think we're pretty dialed in right now. We're going to get together tonight and talk about our favorites. It's really down to yours and Deux. Two different logos, equally cool! If we need any changes, I'll let you know.
Thanks for fitting us in. You've been awesome to work with...again! David
