This logo (scrapbooks.com) has been pretty much the same for 8 years and it's been red, but we are not set on it. Really...whatever looks best.
In the logo ideas section I've included ones with cool color schemes too.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
You can see the current logo at Scrapbooks.com to see what we've had. It's time to move on and get something that's creative, simple and fresh. This time we want a word logo integrated with or along side an icon or symbol. It could be a illustration or icon of a scrapbook album, or a scrapbook page, or a mother and daughter looking at a scrapbook, or some simple symbol that conveys that.. but.
something that conveys "scrapbooks" and something SIMPLE and CLEAN. We need an icon to go with the word to be memorable and set it apart.

Here are a few concepts we really like:

http://logoholik.com/logo_portfolio/images/storycircle.jpg (LOVE This logo. Everything about it. LOVE the colors. LOVE the Simplicity. Etc. LOVE IT).

http://www.samarras.com/modulos/index.php (LOVE the simplicity of this logo and the colors).

http://www.sebastiany.com.br/ (Again. I love the simplicity and the colors are nice).

http://www.pathfinder.gr/ (Creative idea for working the icon into the words)

http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/dubai_intl_logo.gif (Love how this is a collection of smaller pieces to make a larger shape. This is what scrapbooks are - collection of smaller things to make a whole).

I really like this designers' style and approach to logos. I like most everything he does: http://logoholik.com/logo_portfolio/logo_portfolio.html

Again... Keep it SIMPLE. We need it to be clean and elegant and simple and somehow convey "scrapbooks".

Good luck!!

THOUGHTS AND UPDATE TO ALL DESIGNERS: Here are some additional thoughts and direction for all.

A scrapbook is different from a book. It's usually 12" x 12" so it's a square. Anything that is the shape of books (rectangles) won't work.

Please don't get too cartoony with the icon and it shouldn't really be a detailed "illustration" either. We want something clean simple and easily brandable. I'd rather it be a little more elegant with shapes to "convey" scrapbook without actually having to be a illustration of one.

http://logoholik.com/logo_portfolio/images/storycircle.jpg
I have some other logos listed in the contest brief as well that should give you a better feel as well.

If you'd like to see some actual scrapbooks:
http://shop.scrapbooks.com/kma-10564.html
http://shop.scrapbooks.com/wr-70379-2.html
http://crafts-sewing.hsn.com/marcella-12-x-12-scrapbook-album-bon-bon_p-4131000_xp.aspx

Here's an some actual scrapbook pages inside an album to give you an idea of what they look like:
http://www.scrapbooks.com/gallery/?type=layout&page=1&vote=0&f=1

They are quite elegant so we want to stay away from any "cartoon" feel. Anything that feels like a cartoon will seem unauthentic to our shoppers and anything that is shaped like a book won't work either.

Thanks to all.

REMEMBER.
1. It must convey "scrapbook" or "scrapbooking"
2. It must be clean and simple

We like:

#19, #3 and #12 Colors. We like the elegant softer feel with these colors.

#19 has the right idea with an icon and then words next to it. This still looks a little too much like a book (shape), not quite like a scrapbook yet, and a little cartooney - but it's really nice. We do like the concept as a whole.

We like the idea of a brandable icon.

One concept that has not been tried yet is an open scrapbook with like light or color coming out of it. That might be a good take on this. Maybe an angle like this: http://www.hewit.com/Images/sd4-book.gif
But with colors and/or light coming out? It's just an idea we had.

I don't know how it would look or work, but that's something to consider.

BTW.
We have the tag line "Keeping Memories Alive" but you don't need use it in the Logo.

#38 and #40 are very nice.
Can you try it with just the red font and just the red color.
so scrapbooks looks like one word instead of two put together. I like the red color and red font for that logo.

I'd like to stay away from the scrapBOOKS look with two different fonts or colors. It really is one word so we should try to keep it that.
I like #42. Could you take out the "flourishes" and try working red in? Perhaps try a red font too?
I do really like the idea of different pages that turn and different colors in each. Cool concept. Also... it should probably be a 3-ring album, instead of a binder.
Thanks.

ysonmez etc.
We are trying to not do a combo of normal/bold. We prefer one of the other.
For the font you are using in most, we actually prefer the normal (not bold) font I think.
Thanks.

#49 -
Like the angle of that album. I'd like to see it without the circles behind and the colors perhaps in the pages inside the book somehow.

Thanks.

#45 #53 : I really like those colors and the 3-ring scrapbook. It really looks like a scrapbook. I don't particularly like the flourishes, or bursts of color coming out of the book. I'd like to see it just plain, or perhaps with something else?

I do like the thin font used in #47 best. It really has the right feel I think because it's elegant enough without being too stuffy. I like the "a" in that font particularly.

$47 can you try no bold in the font and can you try some type of color in the book? An accent color or colors as the pages in the book? I'd like to see that.

I like what we are seeing so far. I think there are some good ideas capturing color and getting the "scrapbook" feel done. One thing that his not been done is capturing the idea that scrapbooks are a compilation of lots of smaller components... photos, papers, stickers, newspaper clips, or whatever... it's a lot of little things that come together to build a scrapbook. That hasn't been captured. I don't know of a great way to capture that, but it is something I'd like to see.

Thanks to all for your great ideas and designs.

#72 I really like this concept. It would be cool to see it with the top "pages" connected so it feels like an actual scrapbook. I love the concept though. Might be nice to see it in some additional colors too.

Anything that has a "cartoon-like" feel isn't really what we are looking for. Scrapbooks are "artistic" and elegant so we need to appeal to our clientele. Anything that is cartoonish will be a turn off to our customers.

Thanks so all for the great ideas and designs. Many wonderful concepts here.

#73 is great. I'd love to see some variations of colors of the book and the pages.

#72 is great too. I'd love to see some variations on that concept.

#47
I would like to see this logo with just the thin font and then maybe just a color or glow from inside the album.
Maybe try some different colors of the album or some variations of the color of the cover of the album and then maybe a color inside or glow inside the album? Not sure... just some ideas.
Thanks.

#76 #77 #78
really liking some of the other color options. very nice.
Not sure I'm in love with any of them but they give a nice fresh feel to it!
I don't particularly love the glow inside the book... but I do like the idea of using a color or a maybe two to show that there is colored pages in there.
The glow didn't seen to work out as i'd imagined.

To all -
one of our founders came up with a concept recently and I wanted to share and see if anyone wanted to run with it.

http://www.scrapbooks.com/images/kma-logo-idea.gif

This is obviously a rough idea and not something we would ultimately use. We do like the shape of the scrapbook and the nature of the book. And we also think the mother, child looking at the scrapbook are pretty cool.

These characters look "fat" so it doesn't work and the whole thing doesn't really feel "professional" but if it inspires someone to do something then that would be great.

Thanks all. Really great stuff!

Bomba - re #80 and #73
these are really awesome.
Wondering if you could try a black or dark gray scrapbook with three page colors in the scrapbook: red, blue, green. I would love to see that.

red-circles #72.
This is a cool concept and we really like it. We'd like to see some variations on that theme. This is a concept our founder came up with and liked a little while ago. Not sure if it helps or inspires:

UPDATE TO ALL:
Met with company founder and had her look at all of the logos submitted so far. She was very impressed with everything that you all have come up with. As mentioned before, we are looking for something simple and clean... some of the logos (even ones that we like) are probably too "detailed" to be a logo. And even though they are all nice, we're going to need to go with something more "clean" for the logo.
We're excited to see what you can come up with.
The idea here was from our founder: http://www.scrapbooks.com/images/kma-logo-idea.gif

This is not necessarily what we want or need for a logo, but it is something to give you additional ideas.

We need simple for branding purposes etc.
Just a few days left. Looking forward to seeing some of your best simple designs. Thanks!

#91 and #92, I went with a falling/flowing sheet of paper, simple and clean.

#90 I'd like to see some variations on that with some different color pages and different font too. Not sure the stuff floating above the scrapbook works, but the scrapbook itself is very interesting.

#113 #117 #115
nice clean concepts. really like them.
the only problem with this icon is that the pages still look like a book. Scrapbook pages are 12" x 12" so they are longer than what you are showing in this. They spread out further. I provided some links above to scrapbooks and scrapbook pages. This still looks to much like a book and needs to be spread out. It's definitely closer to what we are looking for as far as simple and clean. I'd like to see less yellow in the logo pages and more variety of color perhaps.

Just for the record - I did not copy #72. The idea for my first submission came from my own entry in a different contest. I repurposed the book for this contest. My original submission was revised per the request of the contest holder. Any similarities were accidental and a result of the revisions made. To the contest holder, Kanetrain and the other designers who submitted to this contest, my sincere apologies if this in any way inconvenienced anyone.
Good luck to all.

rapunzel -
I did not think the logo looked copied and your logo modifications were based off of direct feedback I gave to you. I agree that you did not purposely copy the logo. Thanks for your submissions and best of luck to you.

#180 This is a very nice concept and execution. I would like to see it with some different fonts. And I like to see color in the word "scrapbooks.com". can you try some variations in the font and color? Overall it is a great concept.

#208 very cool concept. I'd love to see a few variations on this theme with different fonts, and some color or a color in the word. great concept.

#161 This is a cool concept as well. I like the simplicity. It's very simple and clean. I don't know if it really says "scrapbooking" or "scrapbooks" but it is a nice design.

Thanks so much for all of the great designs. There' have been several submitted today right at the end. We wanted to extend for two days to give ourselves a chance to look at them and to give anyone else a chance to submit something or to revise a current submission.
