For the designers involved in the contest, here is response This is a response back from Google for the use of the of the android robot

------------------------------------------------------
The Android robot is protected by the Creative Commons license - which allows others to modify and distribute the Android robot as they will. It does not enable those to claim trademark rights for any version of the Android robot that they create.

What this means specifically for your question is you can make a logo with the Android robot but you will not be able to file a trademark or copyright for your logo. Basically, the logo would exist in the public domain for others to modify at will.

If you include the Android robot in the logo, you will also need to include the text of the Creative Commons attribution wherever you put the logo.

The Android robot is reproduced or modified from work created and shared by Google and used according to terms described in the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution License.
For example, at the bottom of a webpage the logo was on or somewhere on the packaging for a product the logo was on.
