i've done a few of these competitions in the past; will definitely be reviewing when i get a chance. the logo definitely needs to work well against a white background - the focus should be on the security aspect; much like anti-virus and other security firms have their logo design. i think the "RIoT" text in itself is pretty much decided and the logo should be able to convey the message with and without the text.

some feedback from my business partner; in the case where we would use text within the final logo - the AB would be dropped, as it is in line with "Pty, Ltd" or "Inc". it would not be part of a logo in anyway. no need to update existing logos to remove the AB, we understand that is pretty simple to do - as it isn't an integral part of the logo.

i'm also getting further feedback and may refine the sorting; would be good to see some exploration of security elements explored further. there are more ideas than just a shield; incorporating the micro-controller as an element is definitely interesting as well.

i've narrowed down the entries to the top 10 designs based on what is submitted - i am looking for some variety in the designs, colours are easy to adjust, as if the front size; so i've kept one of the duplicates styles in the top 10. just a few notes - "RIoT" originally had a different colour for the R and IoT, to signify that the focus was on IoT (Internet of Things). the font choice of course should match that of the original logo - we definitely would want to drop the AB from the text as well. i will go through and leave some comments on the top 10 now

comments on the top 10 - right now no real order, still looking for an influx of ideas.

great first day designers.. i know this is a harder design when having to keep similar to an existing one. a good variety are definitely coming through. just a few notes; if the first is going to be used, definitely try and keep it consistent with the original design, as any association should show that there is a direct relation between the two is important.. same goes with font. however, we can think outside the box.. that association doesn't have to include the first always. what about the aspects of security? integrity (trust), authentication (credentials), confidentiality (security), non-repudiation (certification) and the aspects of dealing with low powered micro-controllers... still a bit of time left with the ideas phase.. i've moved similar aspects away for now; but in the finalists phase some may come back - so, do not feel your logos have been rejected.. i just want to emphasis in the initial stages variation is key. so far, only a few have been "oh .. nope" - the rest are all great entries.

COLOSSAL UPDATE - feedback from my business partner.

while we definitely want association with the parent company; it has come to light the fist is causing a lot of issues for designers and we have decided that we should move away from it for this logo - we can still match the association via the font and colours. the blue isn't working as well as we would have hoped; at least.. the logo should be red/white/black or blue/white/black - not more than three colours. i'll update the ordering, there are definitely some elements from the designs with the first we like; please focus on this comment for submitting updates.

just realised that not everyone can see the entries in blind open mode - they've changed the way the logo tournament works, sorry if this has put some people off.. please follow the suggestions in the comments.. all will be revealed when the finalist phase is opened.
