Also not sure how I feel about this type of E. I'd have to see it with something different to know whether it looks good or is actually distracting

I also like how the word "substitutions" is indented a bit in your other example. Perhaps reduce the spacing in between letters to move the start of the word a bit to the right (but still have it align with the word "recipe" at the end)

That's kinda cool! Wondering how it would look if that shape had an arrow at the end to reflect change.

Would also love to see some color options. Either with that box/arrow an array of different colors or one color that changes from light to dark. Perhaps the utensils could each be colored differently?
