Capture the feel of a high school or sports team logo within the specs set forth by the client.

Hi Jared. First, I'm a very long time fan of the PPR as a San Diegan so I know all about what a local treasure the PPR is and have so much of respect for the station and coverage KUSI gives our local teams that no other station covers.

Was there anything about my logo you'd like to see different?

A little bit about the logo I submitted: In the header, I borrowed the star from the KUSI station logo and gave it a little techy feel with a font that's both very modern but more important, easy to read. Also as a San Diegan, I know the social power in the recognition of the PPR letters (you can simply mention "PPR" to any SD local and they'll know exactly what you're talking about without having to say the full Prep Pigskin Report name) so I put emphasis on the letters themselves as the brand. For my font, I started with a second, complimentary techy font and then completely took it apart, added the pointed serifs for contrast and added the chiseled look that is popular with many local and professional team logos. The "flaming football" gives the mark immediate impact and action. And the red/white/blue color combination will fit in well with the KUSI corporate color scheme.

I'd love to get the logo to where you're happy with it so I'd (we?) have pride in that I helped contribute in a way to the promotion of the PPR. Thanks Jared.

This logo design builds off the wordmark concept described in the brief. It incorporates the ideas of a contemporary look using popular effect treatments that are in the vein of what you'd see in school logos. An italic tech font gives the mark motion and a futristic, moderately masculine feel. The letters PPR are offset in a slightly larger point size and set in a rich blue to highlight the nickname the show is known for but without losing the connection to its proper name. The red/white/blue/black colors are in line with the other station logos and this logo would fit right into the family like a long lost brother. The logo also incorporates the KUSI star to solidify its relationship to the station logo. The logo is clean, simple to read at even small sizes and can be easily modified to 1-, 2- or 4-color reproductions. I hope you like it. I'm proud of it.

This logo nails the specs set forth in the brief with the red, white and blue station colors, use of a metallic style and a modern "techy" font that isn't overly trendy and will last for years to come. The angle of the logo and the trailing stardust give the logo speed and motion. This style also takes into account the various logos that have thus far been moved to the top of the list in terms of being a strong logotype encapsulated within an emblem. I can already imagine it on Paul Rudy's and the PPR team's signature wind breakers.

Revision of an earlier entry to re-proportion the mark and increase the font's point size and visibility/legibility and give the proper show name more presence while still identifying the PPR nickname.

OK Rob here are my recommendations: Go back to the one we have ranked. Lose the flames on the football and incorporate the football more into the shield. Make it more integrated instead of an after thought. Also make the actual prep pigskin report text bigger. Lose the red stroke around the outside of the shield as well. On the top the kusi news should be there instead of just kusi, in the same style as our normal brand with our normal red and blue colors (which will cause you to have to think about how to make it readable with your shield (emblem) color. Looking forward to the next sample.

Thanks Jared. I appreciate the feedback. You mentioned that you could make the station logo available at the website. Is there a download area or page we can find the logo to use in our artwork?

I can recreate it for the tournament and if one of my logos is ultimately chosen, I can swap the "official" logo in.

This logo combines the elements set forth in the design brief as well as client feedback. The mark incorporates several elements to make it fit inline with other station logos - the KUSI station logo, San Diego city skyline and overall styleguide red/white/blue/black/white color scheme as sampled directly from existing station logos. The logo uses a football silhouette as a badge shape and highlights reinforce the football's presence within the logo. The fonts chosen and their treatments are easy to read at any size and the PPR nickname retains the chiseled metallic look aligning it with the many logos of the schools KUSI interviews.

Alternative version of logo featuring a collage of high school names the PPR covers. This would really only work in larger format presentations for legibility. But it's something to consider.

In my head I can imagine the logo animated 3d, spinning as if it had been spiked and coming to a gradual but quick stop then the individual elements exploding forward...and cut to Castellucci. (I'm a visual guy)

Rob don't lose the shield and ditch the football all together.

This entry is a variation on the theme as requested. In this logo, the PPR letters contain a football in motion incorporated directly into the typography. The colors remain consistent with the station styleguide and the full KUSI logo is easily legible at any reasonable size.

Another variation on the theme as directed. In this version of the logo, the chiseled metallic PPR letters are used adain to allign with popular team logos and a slightly re-worked "ribbon" in a red version with borders removed by direction. A metallic football highlighted in the bottom portion of the shield carries over a similar effect from the PPR letters to give the logo a nice balance. Legibility at a range of sizes was also carefully taken into consideration.

One more option - a variation of the version that incorporates the spiraling footbal in the PPR letters with the textured rays in the shield background.
