I wanted to share the following with everyone after I got a personal message from one of the designers:
Many of the designs were really great. I thought you should know, I am completely un-creative and don't really know what makes a good logo and what makes a bad logo. What's worse, I'm pretty bad a trying to communicate what I want or what looks good or what is appropriate. What really complicates things as a CH is that you get way too many choices in this process. ALSO, today when I logged on I had 80 or so designs to look at as I was trying to leave the office. In my office, a bunch of diffent people were giving input, so I can understand why the process may appear to be so random. I feel like I was inundated with lots of good ideas, but as a business owner I needed a little more direction or guidance in the process. I just couldn't respond and give feedback to 187 ideas. I'm not sure if my being so design illiterate is "usual" or "typical" for CH, but I feel like I should somehow apologize or disclaim it here.
IN HINDSIGHT: A better process would be to spend a day "interviewing" designers and going back and forth on ideas, colors and direction. They could provide samples and communicate ideas and then CH could pick 3 or 4 designers to work with. I assume some designers are better at industrial, some service industries etc. From the designer standpoint you'd have a ton of feedback and a 1 in 3 or 4 chance of winning and from the CH standpoint you could see different ideas evolve. Maybe there should be a different section for guys like me that like the auction process but need a little hand holding or direction with a $500 minimum and a split of the contest money.
All that said, it was a pretty cool process and enjoyed logging and seeing what kind of ideas I'd see. I hope this helps.
