Thanks for the info on the front page about the era. Somewhat of a car buff myself, so I knew that was a question that needed asking. I was really racing against the clock to get these in. I wanted to either do Sterling Mecedes-Benz or Fangio's Ferrari. For now I used what I had available. I can also add a driver to the picture, but was not sure if you want to focus to be only on the car(s). Doing car illustration take a bit of time and some can be done faster than others, Fortunately the illustration can alway be used for other clients, since there seems to be a new revival of car collectors and enthusiasts. :)
Any I also wanted to add into the mix of option some classic British car (they're really beautiful). Maybe a 61 Jag E-Type Coupe or Jag D-Type (In keeping with the racing theme. Your thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I wanted to remove the designs that were out of contention. We cannot use or sell them while a contest is still open unless they are removed. Also, I think that because there was no feedback others also pulled their designs. I assume you do not want a car at all to be shown, so I may try another direction. Your feedback is invaluable to the designers, because unlike a walk-in client we do not have the luxury of better communication.
As for the direction for this contest, do you have any suggestion, Should we move away from any type of motoring images altogether?
Sorry it is the first time that I am using the site and so had not initially fully understood that the ranking was in operation in the first part of the contest. Logo tournaments have now extended the timeframe for me.
I like the idea of a car but there is already another local business who has a car logo which using the company name as part of the wheels/body of the car, so I wanted to keep away from this so that it was not too similar.
I have also now updated the project brief with more information and with the rankings this will hopefully give you a better direction?
Thanks for the explanation. I understand about not wanting to look similar to another existing competitor, but in a marketing/advertising point of view I felt some sort of depiction of what it is that you do would greatly benefit your company. I have had clients that have come to me and also brought up the fact that someone else already uses so-and-so in their business. Though, I understand the rational, there is also another side to this. There is a reason that you want people to be able to know what it is you do if they don't know it already. It is better that people know what you do by your logo, (even if it looks common to a few others in the industry) than to look like the millions more logos out there that are completely nondescript.
Anyway, I made several new logos, I wanted to wait more towards the end of the first phase to upload them. Please let me know if you would like me to reinstate the other logos (the ones with cars) or if I should just leave them out. In the meantime any feedback on the newer designs, would be appreciated. :)
Having considered your advice, I think I need a image that visually describes what our business does. I'm not keen on wheels, but if you have car, radiator grille type images that you could re-submit I'd appreciate it. I'm also drawn to other entries that use an Art Deco design. Regards Joe
Sorry, I was out yesterday, so I did not get your message till just now. I'll be resubmitting the designs and trying a few new ones too. Is red and black the color preference. I like to give some options in terms of fonts and colors, so when I submit feel free to mix-n-match.
I put up several options, feel free to mix 'em around and request any changes. I also did a few variation of fonts, some more maybe too thin, but I'll leave that up to you. I was reviewing "Art Deco Auto Posters" on google and saw that the bolder fonts are (and were) the more typical weight fonts for almost all manufactures.
For entry #146 I chose an old style oil can to represent the letter I. For #145, I wanted to try a completely different option and used an english style ascot cap as well as hanging driving gloves and driving goggles off the letters. I ran out of time, but I thought of trying a silhouette with the typical hat, googles and scarf (sitting on an invisible face) wow, that does not make much sense. LOL Anyway, I won't be able to make any changes or upload anything unless, I should reach the Top 5. In the next phase, only the Top 5 designers will have an upload button available.
Please get back to me with your suggestions. I hope to hear back from you.
Wow, loads of ideas! I particularly like the blue racing car image of #37 and #143, but not quite sure either logo does it for me. Most of my other favorites use Art Deco fonts and styles but I'm not sure this car image would work with that style? That said I quite liked the font used in #44 and #45, just not the "sprocket" so maybe you could combine these ideas?
Yes I have been doing quite a few logos. I just prefer to present all at once rather then trickling them in. I don't mind working on these logos because what gets nixed in this contest just moves on to another. :) I also have a side business with a partner (I design, and he prints classic signs on metal and the biggest demand is for military and retro auto related garage signs like oil companies, manufactures posters...) I Have hundreds of Art deco type fonts. I there one that you particularly like? Like I mentioned, I have been leaning more toward the traditional bold, but I can easily replace it with any of the thinner more delicate fonts. Also, when I start a logo or design I start higher end (in terms of time and detail) and then work down as oppose to the other way around. Would you like the care to have less detail, less color, different colors...
Please this contest which was held here for another British client in your line of work. There are other illustration styles and additional fonts which may be more to you liking. https://logotournament.com/contests/ferrugo
Thanks and try the suggested changes you requested, but if you can, please let me know if you want the illustration simplified or even a particular car model or color.
