Our Ideas and Additional Information:
Olde City Soul is a soul food joint on steroids. Chef driven concept complete with transplanted food and cuisine of the American south with award winning bbq, seafood, cool R&B vibe accentuaed with family recipes and a bit of influence from world cuisine made simple. This casual themed restaurant based on comfort foods and fine ingredients is great for jeans and power suits, tourists and take- out, date night, families and the seekers of a great night out complete with a well thought wine list, small batch bourbon collection and an exclusive hand crafted microbrew menu from select breweries. Olde City Soul will be located in the historic "Olde City" section of Philadelphia in the Historic Corn Exchange Building. The word "Soul" will be at the core of future branding and used in tag lines. I want to see some things that keep the word soul prominent so we can use it to build spin-off other locations and products of the same core concept. For example...I am working on a derivative concept of smaller express locations that will be called "Simply Soul"
Tourists will play a role in some of our sales because we are one of the largest restaurants in Olde City where people travel from around the world to to visit the Cradle of Liberty... Philadelphia. Olde City is home to the Liberty Bell and other national history that is the core of commerce and traffic in this section of Philadelphia. I am not opposed to, but, would entertain logos that have a creative element that incorporates american history or stars and stripes, but by no means am I limited such a theme. I have done other contests with great results and I am looking forward to seeing some great designs.

Diamond Contest
We're sorry, but this contest is presently open to a limited pool of designers.
#1 Great start! I'm wide open and looking for all types of designs. We are torn between something that says Philadelphia/American/Flag and something fun and recognizable that will represent who we are and what we do OR something that does both. It must be a design that will show well by itself whatever the background. (meaning red is a good color in the general design, but, not as the background...logo shouls stand alone and look good on whatever we place it on, i.e. flag, colored shirt, billboard, web page) I am not sure how well this design would show on an embroidered piece and i want the logo to sell above a strong background. The design element is what's recognizable and important. I love seeing some of the elements I mentioned and the stars and stripes and music are components that should accent or be remembered in a subliminal sense supporting the word Soul.
1. Soul 2. Olde City 3. Flag or patriotic colors and music elements 4. it may be much, but, since we are a restaurant ...food or a stylized icon of food or smoke image, may become a player in design, but, our tagline may do that part for us
Sorry about being a little vague, but, that's why I am coming to the experts. We will know the right design when we see it and we check this site often.
I hope this message helps all who are entering this contest...and good luck!
I like all their designs so far and here are my thoughts:the design elements in all of the entries are important but we are looking for some of the simplicity that is built into number one. I'd like to see some designs that incorporate that simplicity that meet some of the design elements i.e. of music notes, stars, stripes, and in number one there is a "difficult to recognize icon" that i would like to see replaced with the liberty bell.I would like the retro/antique feel that is part of number one, considering the age of the building and the district in which the restaurant will be placed. Kudos to number one! Everyone involved i would like to see your creativity following these comments and suggestions.
One thing; i do not want a dark background. What were looking for is something like number one with colored font and no background, or a shaded or gradient background.
Trim, outlines or borders take away from the core design. We are happy with all the designs so far and are looking forward to see what will come out in the next few days. Thanks for all your efforts so far.
let's see 1st and 3rd with white letters and the star in the "o" in Soul. 2nd without a border and any enhancement options you may think of. I am curious what a circular logo can bring to the table (no outlines please) 4th show me some different fonts and the bell is too elongated and less spider cracks on the bell. Also 4th please show me without orange flames please.
Keep 'em coming and you are not limited to my comments...I like something about everything I've seen. Great work!!!
A lot to look at. I will be with my team later today to sort out these entries...They are all great and will be ranked by tomorrow and we will select a winner Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for all of your efforts! (and it's gonna be a tough one)
Now that you're in the judging process, you might find this information helpful:
How to Rank and Thank Designers: When it comes time for final rankings, designers appreciate when you choose the top three CONCEPTS (as opposed to variations of the same design) for the gold, silver and bronze awards. If you want to rank two different concepts by the same designer in the top three, that's fine. Also, rank as many entries as possible, because designers get points added to their overall site standing for each blue ribbon they get.
This is how points are distributed:
1st place - 50 points 2nd place - 20 points 3rd place - 10 points 4-6th place - 5 points 7-10 place - 3 points
After that, each ranked entry gets one point for the designer. Nobody will be insulted by being ranked last, the points are still good! So if you pull some entries out of the "Not Interested" group and give them a rank, the designer gets some benefit from entering your contest.
Hope that's helpful, lots of contest holders don't realize this and most are glad to know. It's a good way to thank designers who don't win the contest prize, but who worked very hard to offer you lots of options to choose from for a great logo.
Thank You so much!!! Give props to the team at Shnick Studios for winning, but, every entry really rocked and I must tell all of you this was the toughest logo decision I have ever had to make in more than twenty years in this business...I am sure we will cross paths again and my congratulations to all of you. You all won in the hearts of my team and the approval of friends of the business...keep the creativity flowing!!! If you are ever in the Philadelphia area...my table is your table and go to www.chefkeithtaylor.com to contact me and I would love to share my craft with you!
