Here are some of my concepts. I've gone for something that's fairly clean and simple, yet striking. Creating an icon that works well within the logo or as a stand alone element, one that can be used for things like favicons or watermarks.
The logos are 100% vector so will scale well to any size, and works well in full colour, B&W and on coloured backgrounds if needed,

Options #12 and #13 are a bit too colorful, I like the icons in #11 and #10, and how the negative space creates a + symbol (sign for medical care) but overall, none of them say 'nursing' to a degree that they should.
I'm not a huge fan of the primary typeface for NCFI. If you were to work on variations on any of these I would focus on #10 and #11 - This logo should visually say 'nursing'.
