I wonder if it would be possible to make the needle look a little more like a explanation mark? Maybe just insert a small space between the needle and the circle at the base?

Looks great.

A couple more suggestions:

A charcoal dark grey for the text, rather than the black (90% black)
A little bit more red showing on the gauge (you can maintain the same angle on the needle -- it doesn't matter if it moves more to the center of the range).
