Our Ideas & Additional Information
You can see the existing logo on this site (http://www.nordinez.com/), but there is no need to follow its design; we are looking for something new. The logo should scale -- that is, it should be readable at small size (unlike the current logo). Be aware that the brand Nordine "Avtar" Zouareg may be changing with the emphasis on "Avtar". Eventually, "Nordine" and maybe even "Zouareg" will be dropped. "Avtar" will become the most distinctive component of the brand. It's short, spellable, memorable, and has a specific spiritual meaning for Mr. Zouareg. The logo should accommodate this eventual change and emphasize "Avtar". Having said that, we are open to designs that do not include the name spelled out. The audience for these products is likely to be well-educated with above-average disposable income. The design should be sophisticated and classy, and not overly soft. Remember the creator of the products is a former Mr. Universe and a professional speaker. He's intense, and is passionate about his message of Life Balance for people everywhere. Alternate tag lines are: Mastering the Art of Life in Balance; Mastering the Art of Life in Balance through Health and Fitness; Your Life, in Balance.; Master the Art of Life in Balance; Your Body, Mind, and Spirit, in Balance; Balance your Mind, Body, and Spirit; Avtar: Your Life, In Balance

Discussion

These designs are a good start. Of this group, I like #5 and #6 the best. Perhaps you could provice a combination of the two? I like the leaf image in #5, but it's useful to include "Nordine Zouareg" as you have already done in #6. As I mentioned in the project description, we may entirely omit "Nordine Zouraeg" as the Avtar brand becomes known, and you have accommodated for that in #6. Great start!

Perhaps a more somewhat more masculine logo would be useful for comparision. I would say this first set of seven is neutral or slightly feminine. I'm contacting the content to providers now to find out what percentage of men vs. woman have been buyers in the past. I will report back soon. Thanks.

thanks for your feedback.... you will learn this feedback will direct us to give you exactly what you seek, great start on you being the contest holder!!!

New information: The buyers for products under this brand are expected to be 60% women and 40% men, and more men are getting involved -- so it's just about balanced in terms of men vs. women.

What about the slogan? Currently it's "Master the Art of Life in Balance". Is the slogan usually incorporated within the logo design, in a compatible font? Please advise. Perhaps the slogan should be separate from the logo.

OK #10 was the changes you asked for... and I polished it up a bit. I created #11 a bit more masculine by bringing in the burgundy and I changed the leaf, BUT I showed this to two women in the studio and they both were drawn to it!

#8, #9, #11 are reversed with light type on a dark background. I think generally we want to stay with a light or white background for better integration into web pages, and because the designs seem less "heavy" than those with a dark background

#10 is getting too complicated -- the reflection is a nice touch but remember part of the underlying message is CLARITY of mind. It's better to have a logo that is simple, yet strong. Also as subtle gradients are introduced, printing the design correctly becomes more difficult, and it probably want read at all when printed crudely on a cardboard box for example.

So far, I think #5 is the most successful, but needs the Nordine and Zouareg components added. Thanks.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, your last comment posted at 12:18pm should be read by EVERY designer, as an experiment, the reflection and highlights I produced in logo #10 was the 1st time I have EVER done so, and low and behold, YOU know the crux about doing that, it does not lend itself to printing and reproduction! if ONLY every designer would STOP polishing their logos we would have a level playfield. bravo chap!!!!!

Regantr6, I only know about that because I was in digital print production and architecture for several years each. Unfortunately, many new graphic designers do not grasp the difference between Web and print media or realize what trouble certain designs cause. Here's another one: the logo should read both in color and in grayscale, otherwise, it fails on laser printers, cartons, etc., where inexpensive B/W production is required. Be sure to check how the logo reads by temporarily converting to grayscale. Thanks!!!

#16. This is quite nice, but I think there's little too much emphasis on the green leaf. This looks like a good logo for a line of cosmetics. It's clever to be sure, but I think there are quite a few people who, if they did not know it was about Avtar, would not understand that the leaf form is the letter "T". I suppose the leaf suggests renewal, which is appropriate, but an even stronger theme is BALANCE. That's what this business program is all about -- balance between mind - body - spirit. You have incorporated the tagline (slogan) "Master The Art Of Life In Balance" which is great, but I'd like to see graphic designs that express that idea as well. Also, there is big component of physical activity (the program creator is a former world-champion male body builder!), so we don't want this to come too feminine. The typestyle (font) is attractive, and I will leave this submission in the running. Please submit alternates based on my comments ;-) Thanks!

#18 Yes, there is a component of meditation, but this design seems too Eastern. This is definitely a program for Westerners incorporating a good deal of physical fitness activity. In both #17 and #18, the graphic portion of the image seems to heavy.

#14 regantr6, I like this, especially the addition of the darker green band (I don't want the logo to be wimpy), but the font used for the slogan (tagline) is way too small, it will never read if squeezed into that little box.

regantr6. Please make the "nordine zouareg" text a darker value, the light gray is just too light, I don't think it will read. More contrast please ;-) You could go with a darker gray, or a compatible color with a darker value. Remember, the logo must read in Black in White as well!

#27, colors don't seem quite right, a little heavy. Also, if the graphic image had three lobes, instead of four, it would match up with the three aspects of the product line: mind - body - spirit.

#30, #31: too hard to read the slogan (tag line), remember this logo may appear at small size on the Web.

#36, #37. Graphic image is too strong / heavy relative to the rest of the design.

#39. I like the circular image. That's good! But the font isn't quite right. Please try something more similar to the favorites, moving away from the standard script that you have used, perhaps something stylized, or even a sans serif typeface.

#35. Maxk. Why the gradated background? Let's stick with white for evaluation purposes please. Nice work though.

#44, #45. Graphic image seems too active, distracts from Avtar
15 years ago

#32, #33 Maxk. Would be more successful without the shadow. Overall, good!

#57 apple.berry. This is really nice. Please make the slogan font a little smaller, or otherwise fix the letterspacing in the slogan -- it's too tight.

Michael, In number #58 I changed the name to a darker earthy tone instead of the gray, did that suit you any better?? I see you still had #21 ranked 1st.... is there something else you would like to see with color changes?

EVERYONE: I've noticed some bolder entries are coming through . . . great! Let's not be too subdued with the colors or contrast. We're looking for SOPHISTICATED, not weak! Remember, almost 50% of the client base is men. The logo cannot be too feminine or wimpy, but neither should it turn women off. I know it's not easy, Please consider this and do you best. Thanks!

#62 Maxk. Quite attractive. Graphic image is evocative, and slightly ambiguous, which could be a good thing. . . a leaf, the circle of unity in mind-body-spirit (very good), a woman's lips, something organic. Great.

EVERYONE. Don't be afraid to try another color. The logo does not have to be green. I never mentioned green, yet there seems to be strong pattern in that direction, probably due to the leaf image which started to appear early on. Reconsider the contest description and let your ideas flow.

#53. Good design, but needs more contrast against the background. Think about alternate colors too please.

#71 regantr6. When I see this, it brings to mind a prescription drug label, maybe it's text typeface. Think your other direction was better.

#68 apple.berry. I like this a lot. Font for slogan is not quite right though.

#79 Glorious Kids: Cool. The kerning (letter spacing) on Nordine and Zouareg needs to match though. It looks like you are trying to stuff Nordine in there. Perhaps raise "Nodine Zourareg" above the "Avtar"? I would say the size of the smaller text is just too small to read. Also, I would lose the leaf sticking out of Avtar letterform, unnecessarily complex. I like the circular graphic! Overall, I like this design, but it needs some tweaking and balancing. Consider swapping out the gray text with something darker, perhaps the blue-green in the circular image?

EVERYONE: Why are almost all of these designs green, with a leaf??? There is no need to get stuck with that idea. I guess there is nothing wrong with it, but I don't see any compelling reason for that motif either. Am I missing something here?

#102 Vikash. Nicely done! May I suggest some tweaks to this design? Use either one leaf (to express unity), or three smaller leaves (to express mind-body-spirit). The Slogan is too small, and "Avtar" needs some kerning (letting-space adjustment) to tighten it up a bit (same with your other designs, are you using a professional graphic design application?). Green is too yellow and weak, I would like to see an alternative to the brown you are using as well. #100 is too active. Thanks!

#97 Ghost1941. Something different, great! Would you try a version without the purposefully degraded script font? I think you were trying to emulate handwriting, and I think that is successful, but I'd like to see an alternative version with a different non-degraded font. Overall strength is great, it reads! I also like how you have integrated the Nodine Zouareg portion. Color is a little subdued,(although it is rich and masculine, which is cool), Maybe experiement with the color a bit? A rich medium teal blue for Avtar, or crimson?

#80 - #92 Glorious Kids. I'm afraid the slogan is too small in all of these (where it appears). Remember the logo has to read at small scale.

EVERYONE. Please remember that the slogan must be easy to read at small scale. If I can't EASILY read the slogan in the "show full size" mode, it's too small, and your design will not be chosen. Having said that, we are entertaining designs that do not include the slogan (perhaps it's just too log to squeeze in there). Thank you!

#95 IdeazDen. I like it. A suggestion, if the color areas are different size, to me that suggests a hierarchy -- different emphasis on mind vs. body vs. spirit, which is not the case And it's in conflict with the circle, which conveys unity or oneness.

Glorius Kids. With all due respect, you are overwhelming me with designs that are essentially the same, just tiny tweaks. I would rather see you think this project through, and submit just a few of your best designs. We can always tweak the colors or make small changes on this end. Thank you.

#38, #82 Glorious Kids. #38 and #82 may be your most successful submissions. Could we try a combination of these two? Replace the font in #38 with the one in #82 (or use something else). I like #38, but I think the font is wrong. Also the space between the leaf and the circle could be tighter. Just think it through a bit please and re-submit if you like. Thank you.

#121 Maxsense. Awesome.

#121 Maxsense, Can you do one of these with a circle around it, as in #122? Be careful the graphic image does not get too large relative to the type. Really nice.

#131, #132. Beautiful, but I think the gradient is too subtle, and will not read well under some conditions. Any way to simplify?

EVERYONE. We are approaching the close of entries, thank you for all your hard work, there are some excellent logos here. This is my first experience with LogoTournament and my understanding is I will be provided with an .eps file (and possibly other files as well). If possible, I would like the winner to include the font(s) in case we need to make small changes in the future. If you feel licensing prevents this, then I at least need the name of the font(s), I will confirming exactly what you are providing before releasing funds. Thanks!

#179 Mare. I like this design, but the slogan is too small. Please see my previous comments.

#190 Mare. I can read this even at small scale which is great!

#148 Maxsense. Would you care to make the slogan bolder, similar to #190? It really must read at small scale.

#190 Mare. Lovely design. My only reservation is that the petals of the flower are rather complex -- any way to simplify? I think the current design might be difficult to print.

Dear Ch
Am not sure about the printing aspect - but to simplify i will have to use no gradients - which might take away its sheen - ofcourse on business and letter heads you can use single color / grey scale that should be no problem - anyway will upload a simplified version - and please click on my design to leave you comments - thanks

Please send me a Pm - if you find it deem fit - or atleast place comments about my design in my design page and not here in this general discussion area - thanks
