Color Preferences
I like the 'start' color theme on this site:
http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/ (gallery tab for picking a theme).

Update 6/18 - I removed the 'redmond', theme as an option. I want to stick with the 'start' theme. I realized I don't like the lighter blue color of the 'redmond' theme in a logo. A screenshot of the theme has been attached.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
previous logos and banners I liked that were made for me:

I want an entire color redesign of the current nexul.com web site. The site colors will be made to complement the new logo colors.

Users can also share content with the 'everyone' which makes it for public consumption. Users can gain reputation in topical areas. Users can search for public content by topical areas.

See this: http://nexul.com/social/stream/popular/topic/nexul/

You'll see a top contributors on the right, and tags/topics with the most discussion below it.

A logo should try to equally express that openness and the ability for privacy at the same time. The "globules" in #1 do that to an extent, as do also the inner facing communication bubbles in #4.

There are three levels of openness in nexul. A logo than can somehow represent them all definitely wins. If none can accomplish that, then focus on level 2.

(1) total privacy (self only - bookmarks or journal), (2) group boundaries (limited sharing with friends/family), and (3) full community (openness).

A few friends that gave feedback mentioned the slogan of some options was too small and that made them vote for an alternative where it was not fuzzy and was readable. Make sure your uploaded graphics are crisp and easy to read the slogan when you hover over them.

Some feedback I have received noted that a logo with fewer colors makes the color scheme of the web site more versatile. A good point since the primary use of the logo will be on http://nexul.com/ Designs that look good in two colors only will have something in their favor.

Some common feedback for all:

I prefer two color designs using either
a) the blue and green combination from the brief.
b) the blue and orange combination from the brief.

The designs where I have seen in a gradient and a non-gradient I have generally like the gradient version better. If there is a gradient so far in the name nexul, I have preferred the lighter shade on top because that is how the gradient works in the referenced screenshot of the colors to be matched on the web page. The icon may or may not follow that preference. Do the gradient on the icon however you think it looks best. Make sure the gradient colors match the range of gradient on the attached screenshot (or see the actual referenced page in case the screenshot colors were altered during the save to png).

I like the slogan lettering in either the orange color from the theme in the brief, or in black or a dark gray. I like it in orange if the symbol to the side has some orange in it. make sure the lettering is thick enough and/or big enough to be read at the small preview size shown on the contest page.

I like the lower case lettering for the nexul name better. I also prefer the icon to be on a side and not replacing the X or another letter. When the X is replaced I fear that some visitors will read it as ne ul or neul and not nexul.

I think all of the above can be adopted by any design without considering it a copy. The real differentiator should be the design of the iconography on the side of the name.

Thanks for your effort!

Wow, you all did really great! Thanks a lot.

I have a hard job ahead of me picking the winner. Luckily I have a number of friends and family invited and to be invited to help me out.
