Great I think I like that -- could you pull the dots on the top '2' side a little bit out of the corners toward the center? Just a smidge! So, can we make the cube on the main design shaded with lines like this as well -- or is it too small?
Thanks -- I note that in #187, you used thin lines for shading, and now you have kind of a smudgy grey effect I like. Could we go back those fine lines? It looks more like the old wood press style of the rest of the design. We could also just try without shading agains, now that the cube lines are thinner?
thinner line for cube. I am not sure about your request "could we see the separate center-detail alone now that we have the dots?" let me know if I am wrong, my bad did not mastered speak English well.
Great! Could we fine-tune the cube a little? The green lines that form the shape look just a tiny bit heavy, so the mass of it outweighs the anchor. Could the lines be made a little thinner? Also, could we see the separate center-detail alone now that we have the dots?
Thanks -- I'll get back to you in the morning. Could we also talk about the kinds of files you would provide as winner? My sister is asking whether we can get "a layered .eps and/or layered .ai file" -- this would allow her to tweak things a bit further in the future. if we need to?
Okay, here are some more tweaks on spacing: 1) tighten space between L and U in 'Club'. 2) The B in 'Club' is closer to '1976' than the 'B' in Backgammon is to 'Est' -- so the entire 'Backgammon Club' part needs to pivot up to the left center a little bit. There will be a couple more, but let's do this first . . .
Thanks for all these -- could you send one that's just slightly brighter than the original? I think these are all too light. Also, could you send a black one? :-)
Hi -- I'd like to go back to this design (dots on the cube), where you have not changed the lettering yet. My sister will give me some specific suggestions on how to change the letter-spacing. We don't want to change individual letter shapes. For now, can you try a few different shades of green, a little bit lighter than these (less black)? Thanks!
Better! But did you make any change in the size of letters? (G? W?) I think you should keep letters as designed in original font and work with spacing first. it looks like maybe you made the W bigger rather than changing ing placement. . . . ?
Thank you for your explanation. Some Kerning that looks not balance influenced by the original shape of letter it self. But I will try to make it balance. Thank you.
"Kerning" is about the spacing between letters. I think the "height" of the original letters is probably okay, but you have to get the spacing between letters right. In your design the space between 'E' and 'W' in NEW in too big. Maybe also between 'L' and 'A' in 'England'. The design over all is good, but these details need to be more professional for us to use your design. Please let me know if you don't understand snd I can explain more!
please check #208 I have revise the W letter to have same high with other letter. Spacing between "New England" and "Backgammon Club" is different. I make different spacing for "New England" to get balance for length half circle. Please let me know if you need another revisions. Thank you.
I am not a graphic designer, but to me there looks like a big problem between the 'E' and 'W' in "New England" and perhaps some other letters in the outer circles. Do you think the spacing on all the 'New England Backgammon' looks right?
My bad, can't see the kerning on the text that off quite a bit do you mean. Do you mean this part http://prntscr.com/no4p9t center each letter? may you tell me. Thank you.
I'll need to check with my friends which object we would like to go with. Next, could you have a close look at the kerning on all text elements? I'm seeing a few letters that seem off quite a bit -- give it your best shot and I'll let you know if anything still looks wrong!
It's probably too small, but you could also try putting numbers instead of dots to make it a doubling cube -- see the picture of the Black cube in the images I uploaded? But if it's just too small, that's fine.
Thanks -- that's a relief. While I've been thinking of the little detail as a 'doubling cube' we could also consider making it a die. Might we try adding 1/2/3 dots to the three visible sides, if it's not too small for that? Another alternative might be to make it a single checker, perhaps with a 'carved center' for texture -- either 3-d or flat. I'm going to message you a couple pictures for reference because the dots would need to be oriented properly with relation to each other.
Thank you for your feedback. If you selected and declare the winner, as usual designer will upload the final file soon and you can download the final file in this site. Sometimes contest holder still request revision for designer after the contest ended directly by email. and additional files of course delivery by email. Even if you want to complete your contest soon you can contact the admin. I hope my explanation could help you. Thank you.
Oh -- I was a little confused about the process. I thought once I declare a winner, we had a week to fine-tune it, but in fact it looks like when I choose a winner, I'm saying the logo is finalized and you have 2 days to deliver the files? I don't understand then what this 2-Day 'Finalists' is about -- what happens this afternoon at the end of Phase 2? I'm aa little panicked now that I have to make everything final this afternoon?
I think this loses the local "old Boston" woodcut feel, and doesn't resonate with the texture of the 'points' in the middle -- so let's stick with the other font - or a similar one.
Let's just concentrate on the "whole" logo for now -- I don't think we want the '3D' effect on the lettering because there's already enough. I think we're wondering if the actual outer ring could be made a little thinner -- the "New England backgammon Club" text made a bit smaller and/or the center 'NEBC' a bit larger. But I don't know if this is even possible given the length of our text elements?
To be honest, I think this could also be a "final phase" experiment -- in the sense that I do not think our final decision will hinge on whether you can improve your design -- the top two contenders are so different in style that the final vote will be on the overall concept.
Hi -- things are looking favorable for your design! One suggestion with our committee is that they wonder whether the center 'NEBC' could be somewhat larger / more impactful in relation to all the surrounding material. I'm skeptical about changing the proportions myself, but might you be able to try a version where the outer ring is a little bit smaller, allowing the center section to grow a bit larger so the 'NEBC' "pops" a bit more? I think a couple committee members would appreciate seeing that attempt -- or any other way of making the NEBC stand out more.
The 'center section' - yes! So, I'm not sure how this works -- as the winner would you be able to deliver both the main 'winning' logo as well as some variants like this in separate files? Or does the contest mean we pay the prize for the single winning file and then would have to contract for and pay for additional variants?
actually like #178 just made minor change on circle with transparent. make variation to see how logo looks like, of course considering the logo can work for various purposes. Thank you.
Yikes! Now my eyes are getting all mis-calibrated and your original color looks like black! Let's not experiment with color anymore at least in this phase, and stick with your original one..
Oh, could you change the year to 1976 on this one? This is a current favorite I think, but I like almost all your new versions! No need to change the year on the others for now, just use 1976 going forward.
Thanks for this added effort, but let's stick with your circle green one, which is testing well with some early surveys. I'm liking some of the variations you delivered this morning!
Better! One thing we're thinking is that this design may not scale down well for some purposes, so we're thinking we want to be able to lift out an inner detail for that sort off thin -- possibly just the NEBC with the anchor/points above it. Could you pull those elements out alone so we could see what that might look like? Also one with the cube elements as well?
I think that after all, this one with the NEBC in center is most effective Thanks for all the experiments. I wonder if there’s a way to cheat the centering a little and bring everything down a little bit so the points don’t make contact with the inner circle? If the cube could be rendered with depth suggested by line weight rather than shading , it would help balance the complexity of the anchor/points combo. The filled in cube isn’t the answer.
Interesting variation -- could you try going back to the rounded-bottom shape for the triangles here? I think maybe they do go better with the font after all. Also, the style of the cube seems maybe a little too simple/ modern / schematic -- could it be given a different treatment -- or perhaps try a checker instead?
No -- not asking you to add 'checkers' to the design. The twelve "points" to either side of the anchor are pointy at one end and rounded at the other. I'm suggesting you try making them flat, not rounded. True triangles. Thanks.
You know, this design is going on me, and my colleagues like it too.Could you try making the points to either side of the anchor square-bottomed and change ESTD to "EST."?
Wow -- this is a really cool design! I like the non-standard shape of it, and the font style summons up exotic associations. I particularly like the way the emblems on left and right suggest "hidden powers" emanating from cube and anchor -- sort of like Masonic symbols that cannot be understood by outsiders! Unfortunately, I think it's probably not going to be quite the right aesthetic for our club's character -- it's more Bombay than Boston.
Thanks for the submissions! I like this best of the 4, but I'd have to say I've gotten a lot of similar circular designs including a couple we're liking quite a bit more, so I don't know how encouraging I can be. This one is a little "busy" -- the cubes seem only there to take up space. The 'parentheses' enclosing NEBC are a little gratuitous?
