Definitely more arresting! But I think with the rope, and lettering style, the overall impression is of a boating club or seafood restaurant. Perhaps a more neutral text style and different idea for the lower arc?
Hi Albert, Here is an updated circular 1-color emblem for review! This one carries a lot more visual pop to catch people's eye, while still being clean and legible :)
Thanks for this variation -- I'm not a fan of the 'weathered' effect, though. The cube makes better sense than the single die but still seems a little clunky. Maybe doing away with the dice/cube idea altogether and just finding a way to put a nice BOLD anchor in the center somehow? The checker shape and the board points already give plenty of visual BG cues.
I like your thinking and you're right that a logo that would work well in color or monochrome b/w is probably the way we want to go. The one you propose is serviceable! I like the way the circle suggests a checker. The dice in the middle are little bland maybe. Might be interesting to try a doubling cube with an anchor in place of one of the numerals? Though I suppose that would create some dead space in the center. . . .
Updated the pictured dice to include the doubling cube as well as an anchor for a fun nod to the heritage you mentioned... oh, and I dropped a grunge layer on top that can be turned on or off—this would give a really cool vintage look when used. I can see this looking awesome on a game case cover.
Here is my idea for the logo design for your new backgammon club brand! I think something very clean and bold is the way to go here—you don't want to get too cliparty or complicated with imagery. I went with a round emblem, as that could literally go on custom backgammon pieces if you wanted. I also kept it as a simple 1-color design to allow for a vintage engraved or stamped look on various things you might use it on (board cases, the board itself, shirts, signage, etc.)
Take a look when you get some time, review with others, etc., and we can go from there. :)
I look forward to any thoughts you might have, and will gladly provide swift revisions as needed. I am pretty much always logged on to my work computer lol...
