Wanted to say a personal thanks for posting that article. Very helpful!! This is my first contest and it helps to understand that information.
Regarding your design. I do like the creative use of design on the colors, instead of solid. It makes them more unique. Another thing that would make them even more unique would be to have each tile have a different pattern or design. I also like the fade to dark on the outer edges of the tiles.
I still would like the image to portray the slogan "broken beauty" and have the tiles be broken/marred. The clean polished look is beautiful, but doesn't reflect our purpose. Of bringing broken people together to create beauty and the artistry of God.
Hi!, thanks for feedback. Here´s a new entry. with broken parts. I think having different patterns for each piece will make it too busy. Also I want to stay away from the Windows logo look, that´s why I added the pattern and placed the pieces in a different layout. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!. Nat
I will say that you've NAILED the colors! And I do like your creativity to avoid the Windows "knock off". I'll post more tomorrow after the group takes a look at them all. Hopefully they've been on line looking and watching the process unfold some.
Your design had positive yet "mixed" reviews. Some loved the cross...some wanted it to be more subtle. Overall, very positive though. All liked the colors that you choose and the fact that it in NO way brought up MS logo. We wondered what it would look like on a white background and also if the light that they found was larger behind them on the black. Another thought I had was if the outside edges could fade to complete black. Thanks for being so creative!
HAHA, yes! now that I see the entry again the light was too big!
Problem on the white background is that Light is here as opposite of black. I mean you don´t see light outside in a sunny day. You only see a bright light when the rest is dark (black in this case).
I can try a white background and a light with a subtle yellow tint to make it visible.
I´ll different new versions. I really like this contest and I promise I´ll do my best.
Thanks for your feedback and interest in my work :)
I wasn't sure if you could do the light on a white background, so I understand if it doesn't look right. Most likely black will be our primary background...but we just want to see the top ones in white as well. The comment about the light was not that it was too big...but actually wondering what it would look like even larger. I personally think it's the right size...but again...sometimes when you see it differently it looks even better.
Thanks for your work on these. I wish I could pick more than one!!
Working on it. Made some variations but still not happy with, so I don´t upload them. I have the idea in mind. I am trying different "light shapes". I´ll see what I can come up with. I´ll keep trying.
WOW!! You were a busy bee!!! And so creative. I'm just amazed at how many ideas are produced by you and the other designers. I hope the others in the group log on to see your new submissions. I've also started randomly polling people to see how the various "images" strike them. Thanks for all your time and creativity!
Nat, when I survey ppl and show them the top 10, your #79 becomes one that almost everyone is drawn towards. Oh...I just noticed #60. It has been lost in the stack. I was gonna say, make broken beauty more "flowing"...and there it is. On several of your later ones, you took the outside edge off. I was going to request that you to that to #79, but I guess just do it to #60.
I just realized #60 wasn't broken, that's why it moved down in the bin. But I would like to see a more "flowing" font for broken beauty, just to set it off as the slogan instead of part of the name. So, I guess move #79 back to the front line and work off of it. Thanks!
haha. Thanks Generation Y! Designers don´t get alerts from other designers, so I I didn´t see this before Kyle told me.
Kyle, no problem. I´ll try different font versions (I have tons of fonts), but I think we should stay as clean and minimal as possible with the font so we don´t have a visual competition between graphic and lettering. The graphic is strong enough, so a modern or even a classic sans serif font will do.
Also, I'd like to know what the design would look like in a two-color or one-color on white. Just trying to think through some of the print options for the design and making sure it would look good in various formats. I agree with your thoughts on the font.
I kinda figured that was the case, but thanks for the assurance I was guessing correctly. I know you've already made a ton of alterations and options here, but I was wondering what the #1 design would look like if it were slightly more broken...maybe with just a bit more space in the cracks. I'm not sure if it would be any better than what's here, but that is one of the feedback comments that I keep getting, is that they wish it were more broken, or that it's hard to see the brokenness from a distance. It's obvious up close, or when enlarged, but there is concern that when it's small...like on stationary, or business cards...the brokenness will be lost.
Hi! here you have a version with the lines thicker. Just a bit because I don´t want to lose the texture of each of the squares because of the black lines covering them all. Please let me know what you think (I suggest you to compare the entries side by side so you see the difference) Thanks!.
I don't know if this is possible, but currently the braking of the tiles looks like the break comes from the center and goes out. Is it possile to create a different "break" on each tile, as if they were broken BEFORE they were put together.
I know I'm like asking for every concievable configuration of this image...but in my head I'm trying to see it on black, but with the tiles white and cracks black...kinda like what it would look like if we took the image and and made a white sticker out of it to put on car windows....So it would be a "one color" white design and the black would be "clear". Just trying to think through all uses for one logo.
I also saw #292. For some reason...not as appealing to me...though I thought it would. It kinda looks more like a "crackle" finish. Is it possible to take the first "cracking" effect, but have it originate not from the center of the design, but maybe from a different point for each piece...then put them all together... KM
"I really thought that was not ethic at all" come you must be kidding me this is a tournament and whats wrong with me telling the CH want I feel is the truth I feel out of all the designs in this contest I give him what his ask for ..and thats it if it hurt your feeling then Im sorry but thats how I felt and far as editing you are well aware we cant PM CH until thet PM use so I sent a lil note about how I Feel and theres nothing wrong with that its my page to talk to the CH and I free to dont that if you have a problem with that stop reading my page and if you are so big on ethics why didnt you PM me instead of posting it on my page ? But anyway the CH is going pick whats he thinks works for him so have a nice nat and get back to work designing,'Dave
Kyle, for this entry I had to remove the textures each square had because it gets too busy, so I´m using gradients now. I´ll show you how busy it gets with the texture and new lines in my next upload.
Ok...I think that I'd like #253 art combined with the #215 font options. I like the wider broken lines of #253 but with the bolder "broken beauty" font. Can I see that one? And I'm thinking that's gonna be my last revision.
I uploaded the new revisions. Once you select a winner, the designer will upload the files to the site (an EPS file and a 1000 x 800 px JPG file). If you need other versions (like black and white, grayscale or others based one the winning logo you can ask the designer for them and designer emails you those remaining files.
If you need something else from me don´t hesitate to ask.
