What We Do
We are a small indoor/outdoor New Orleans, French Quarter style restaurant in California that serves crepes, beignets and espressos in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for dessert.
Industry
Restaurant
Color Preferences
The colors of our business are being somewhat directed by the color of the actual structure we are moving into. The building has a normal stucco facade in front but the entire interior is exposed red brick. The floor is also a red brick color. The accent colors for our decor will revolve around a dark (hunter or forest) green, creme or gold, and black/white. Think New Orleans, French Quarter!
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We would like the "Midtown Creperie" portion of our logo to be more prominent than the "& Cafe" portion. We are pretty open to any/all ideas when it comes to design concepts but having some New Orleans, French Quarter element would probably be nice (Lamp posts, Fountains, Wrought Iron, etc). We would also like the logo to appeal to the point that people would actually want to buy "swag" with the log on it.

Once we have the logo in place, we would also be looking to hopefully work with the logo designer on other products (swag product design, letterhead, website, etc) if he/she would be interested.

In reference to design #1 - Thank you for your entry, it's very nice however this isn't really what we are looking for. First off "Tuscan" is more of an Italian thing not French. We are looking for a logo with cleaner lines and using the blue/white/black colors more than red/gold. Thanks again and I hope you post a revised entry. :)

Wow, so nice to wake up this morning to a bunch of new designs to look at, thanks Janz and RetroMetro_Steve!

I'll start with #8, I like this text logo a lot but we're thinking that we do want some sort of graphical element in whatever logo we choose. Also I understand where you are coming from and your idea about "Creperie" being the dominate word however we are going to be doing a lot of branding/marketing with the name "Midtown" so it needs equal footing ("& Cafe not so much). Thank you for your entry and I look forward to any revisions you may be able to come up with.

As for you Janz, I'm loving where you are going with the graphic elements and the idea of the folded cone in #2, #3, #4 & #5 are great! I'm not too sure about the Eiffel Tower sticking out of it though, maybe it makes it too high or something, I'm not sure what it is (sorry that's not really any help). Also, on those specific submissions I doubt I would want to keep the fork and knife in the final design. We like #7 more than #6 due to the blue, white, red looking more like a flag but again, I don't think we want a logo with any sort of food service graphical pieces (plates, knifes, forks spoons, etc). We like #9 more than #10 but crepes are going to be a much bigger portion of our business than anything we do with espresso and I think these logos might give the impression that we are a coffee shop more than an restaurant. I really like your style and I hope you can find some time to enter some more.

So to recap...we really think we want a logo with some sort of French art element (Eiffel Tower, Arch De Triumph, etc) or if you can think of a way to incorporate either some sort of crepe art or crepe chef that might work as well.

Janz,

Yeah, I'm posting comments with each designer as well when appropriate...I just thought it would be good to post up here in the public comments so that any other LDs can see which direction we are looking to go. I hope that is ok.

We plan on giving feedback to every entry and will rank all designs that aren't either blatant copies of other artists or completely off the mark (obviously didn't read contest entry to see what we are looking for).

I know there are a great deal of talented artists on this website but I don't expect you guys/gals to read our minds so we want to communicate as much as possible our ideas and desired direction. I pray that makes sense, lol. :)

Also, if it helps for your design ideas Creperie is actually supposed to use a ê (alt+136) in it so "Crêperie" and of course you can use the é (alt+130) for "Café". Obviously this would cause problems for any design that uses all CAP letters, we don't really care either way whether if they are used or not, just thought we would throw it out there if you like them and were using lower case letters.

I'm definitely diggin' the two new designs by dinou45, #11 & #12 although I think you have an unfair advantage being French and all. :P

I like #12 better than #11 because the Eiffel Tower is larger and the swooshes are a better shape in my opinion. Thanks for the effort!

I'm on my buddy's iPhone so I can't rank right now but the latest entries are great! Another direction we'd like to look at is the good possibility that we could move from a authentic French motif to a French Quarter, New Orleans motif. So in that direction we've replace the Eiffel Tower with lamp posts, fountains, wrought iron or other bourbon street design elements. We could also add probably green as a design color. So put it simply, look up Cafe Du Monde in new Orleans and envision us looking like that. I'll post up from my desktop later this afternoon with more comments and rankings.

OK, all ranked again. Moved #17 to the top because it's more in line with the style we are thinking at this point. We apologize for changing drastically the marketing concept but we met with our consultant today and received some valuable demographic and market research information about what people think between the two themes for restaurants (French Authentic vs. New Orleans French Quarter/Bourbon Street) in our local market.

Sooo...we believe moving forward it's probably best to work in that direction but if you already have a "French Authentic" logo done or in the works please submit it because we still aren't 100% on it. Colors will remain very similar but we will ad in a dark green (hunter or forest green), and either a cream or gold color into the existing palate of deep (brick) red, white, black and possibly blue.

Due to this change there is a good chance that we might extend out the contest a day or two so that everyone has a chance to revise their existing submission or post up a new concept. We'll make that decision to extend either late tomorrow or Tuesday morning dependent on if we have a submission that we really love.

Thanks again for your understanding!

We are loving the new designs with the New Orleans, French Quarter design features...please keep them coming! I'm out of the office for most of today but will be re-ranking on my laptop when I can. I'll post up more detailed comments this afternoon but for the time being use our current rankings as an indication of which direction we want to go. :)

Thanks again!!!

Ranking has been updated for all entries and messages posted on quite a few of the designs. We are really liking the direction this had headed and we are definitely on the right track. We would like to see some more color in all the logos though so keep that in mind for revisions and future submissions.

Keep up the good work, we're in the home stretch!
