MemphisShelbyInform.com is a public service, watchdog web site to "police" transparency in City of Memphis and County of Shelby government and politics, root out corruption, represent taxpayers' interests in efficient government and encourage whistle-blowers.

Red, white & blue might be appropriate, but black and white is more logical.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
The name must be included in the logo. Since the name is very horizontal, it will be difficult to reduce and enlarge. Therefore, the overall logo design should incorporate the name some way into as close to a circle or square as possible. That does not mean that it must be enclosed in a square or circle.

We might be able to live with #1, but I hope we end up with something that is more interesting. I have no trouble with sans serif face, and it's nice and orderly, disciplined, but it's also kinda stodgy, and the all caps a little hard to read. I do think the shadow is interesting.

No. 5 is good thinking, but the ".com" should be in black. Wouldn't split brand name into two colors. Good type selection. Futura? I like the addition of an icon, but the river icon is redundant with Memphis. I'd rather see something like a magnifying glass (for instance) that might add meaning to "Inform" without being redundant. Nice work, thanks.

No. 6 Afraid my comments didn't get posted. Like the addition of the magnifying glass. Feel the handle is right length, but think glass should be 10-15% greater diameter and that the lighter color should show up under glass on "MEMPHIS" ( the MP)as well as "SHELBY" (the EL). Overall nice improvement. Glass helps define our meaning of "inform."

No. 7. Still another 5%-10% more diameter on glass. Also add a little muscle to the outline of the glass and darken the handle of the magnifying glass, so it's darker than the copy. Then you've probably gone about as far as you can go. Simple, strong, self-contained, self-explanatory. Nice job.

No. 8 & No. 9 Lose the question mark and lose the circle around the magnifying glass, then increase the size of the magnifying glass and pull it in closer to the type. Then you can judge whether you want the glass to "violate" the type or not. Whatever you need to make it a nice, tight unit rather than "two pieces."

I am still leaning toward No. 10 because it is a square and will go up or down proportionately. I believe after more consideration that the type should be lighter; not white, but probably about 10-15% less screen than presently. I'm afraid that at half the size the type may blur.

I like No. 12 becauhse it is more intersting, but it is just a tad too vertical for good re-sizing.

I like that No. 11 is colorful, and it's hard for me to resist serif type and caps and lower case. I'm not sure, though, about the arc, and this logo, too, is pretty horizontal.

No. 13 I didn't much like at first, but the dumb, little voice balloon with the .com is kinda growing on me.

Nos. 15 & 16 - An interesting new idea in the mix. Might be workable, but I'd like several changes.
Light source seems confusing. Probably should be a spotlight. Difference between current bulb and shade is confusing. Type's kinda mousey. Needs more bulk, more familiarity, such as Times Roman, Futura, Helvetica, etc. Needs tighter letter-space and word-space kerning. Should be a tighter unit such as No. 10. Light beam should be narrower, I think.

I still have issues with No. 18. Don't know why the type is in staggered lines. Straighten it out. Also, "INFROM" needs to have equal value to "MEMPHIS SHELBY." It's as important as the first two words. Also the light ray whould light everything in its path but nothing outside its path. Seems, too, that all three lines of type need to be raised a little; not so much dead space atop the copy.

No. 19 is better, but the type handling is not nearly as strong as No. 10, and the light beam still is not correct. The parts of the letters that are missed by the beam should be darker, not the same shade as those in the beam of light.

Sorry, but while the GraphitLive idea is interesting, I'm afraid that visually it will lose its impact when reduced.
impallari seems to be more of what we already had.
Vuelta is a graphically neat idea, but I don't think the single quotation icon quite fits.
The sachii designs are nice, but they seem a little over the top.MMeans had possibilities, but graphically they never seemed to come together with enough simplicity.

We'll have a final decision by Monday, thanks.
