Dear jgeddis,

When you say "Attached town mascot" are you referring to the "Mansfield hornet jpg" you posted? I don't know if you are aware, but that hornet belongs to the Georgia Tech logo so designers would not be able to submit anything similar.

Could you please clarify?

The attached hornet is to be used as a guideline and is used by Mansfield public high school as their logo.

As you can see, the hornet used by Mansfield High School is exactly the same as the Georgia Tech hornet.

It's a very common logo and the attached file was just a guideline...there shouldn't be a problem.

Georgia Tech is a Yellow Jacket, not a hornet. BUT, I am discussing with site admins now, if I have to pull the HS logo, I will. I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable.

I do not mean to disrupt your contest in any manner, I just wanted you to be aware of it. Whether you call it a "yellow jacket" or a "hornet" either way it is a registered trademark belonging to Georgia Tech http://www.licensing.gatech.edu/logostrademarks.html and changing the color unfortunately does not make it a different logo.

Mansfield High School is currently in violation of that trademark (unless they have express written permission to use it from Georgia Tech) and designers who submit anything too similar will also be in violation of that trademark. They can certainly do a hornet with a baseball bat, but should create their own version.

No problem Faith - I have updated the brief and removed Mansfield's picture. To be clear - we were not looking to use that hornet - it was just meant to serve as an example of a cartoon hornet.

Please let me know if you feel the update resolves the confusion and potential worry. I do believe that none of the entries were similar to the GTech version.

Faith - yes - I agree - I love how this contest enables us to get entries from all over the world. It is very cool to think a small town little league in Massachusetts could be positively affected by someone across the globe.
