As someone who is in creating visual identities business for a while now, I can see your contest is going in very wrong direction. Here's why: Using same color gradients in logo is already nightmare for printing,...using two, or three colors as gradients on same graphic field is next to impossible to print, and not to mention negative space, or monochromatic logo versions, that you'll have to use occasionaly.
Logo needs to function well in all these variations and the easiest way to achive this, is to use flat design, with clean colors (it is also cheapest option for printing on large scale),...you can have as many colors you want, but using multi-color gradients is a HUGE no-no in graphic community, for the reasons stated above.
So, there are some constructive tips, I think you should pay attention to,...hope this was helpfull to get the best out of this contest!
