Thanks for the entries so far! Comment on #1, #12 and #13: We like these ideas but would like the use of a more sophisticated font (but still non-serif). The other entries are too complicated.

Please see this (bad) example of how the stars can be used in a more dynamic way:

complicated...lol...compared to a 30 star logo? Gotcha....more to come.

Not all the starts have to be in the logo. ;-)
With complicated we meant the use of shadow and a non-relative font. We will make our comments more clear. Enjoy your weekend.

We have edited the brief as to make it more clear what we want, please note following:

- we are not an office of the EU but a research institute. Among other work areas we do research in the legal area of relationships between the EU and the rest of the world.

- the blue and yellow is not really sophisticated colors (we know) so the refined and subtle aspects (see the style slides) should show in the form and use of font.

We hope it is more clear now. Thanks for your work until now.

We are getting more excited about the entries now, thanks for those. The font is also getting more interesting but is a bit too modern now. This counts for #29 and also for # 36.
Submission #29 we like because of the dynamics in how the star is placed in the globe though the font is a bit too playful. In all submissions we still miss the 'From the inside out (from the EU looking out to the world)' from the design brief. We still think a simple way to solve this is to let one or more start fly out of the square (#32) or out of the globe (#29).
Again about the font: we want a clear non-serif font which is sophisticated but not too modern or too playful (lawyers are quite traditional). Thus a sophisticated high-quality non-serif font.

We are looking forward to more exciting submissions. Thanks very much for the submissions until now.

Feedback for most recent entries:
#45: nice font and the text is in good proportion and placement in the box. We would like to see this font used for your #47. The 'falling star' idea does not fit the subject, though, but the idea that the trail of the star is a globe is great!

dziners4web: the map idea is too much in the logo (the overall feel for us with the maps is 'too busy'). We want it as simple as possible.

Overall: we still miss a design where the stars are flying out of a square/globe! It would be great with some designs which are more daring but not too playful. Don't forget, we are a research institute, not an EU office. Thanks.

We feel the need for a clarification of what we mean by a 'sophisticated' font.

What we don't want:
We do not want a standard font used for 1000 of other logo's (so please do not use the standard fonts delivered with Windows) or an easy recognizable font. We do not want an overly designed or too playful font either.

What we do want:
A professional well designed non-serif font where great effort has been put into the details.

Please note the following on the ranking:
At the moment the ranking is purely on concept. The ranking is not on the use of font, which is still not good. The only designs with a, in our opinion, good font is #45, #49 and #50.

We really appreciate your hard work and ideas for this design. Thank you designers!

We are also noticing that almost everybody are treating the text the same way. CLEER in large size with underneath the name of our organization in small letters. There are more ways than that! ;-)

And, as we have said earlier, we are looking for a refined look (it's also in the brief!). Thanks.

Thank you for the new entries. Nice to see different designs! We cannot stress enough that we want a refined look. Please give US feedback if you are unclear what we mean with this.

With refined we mean:
- subtle use of form (opposite of rough/large)
- attention to detail (opposite of a sketch)
- elegant traditional proportions (opposite of proportions with large contrast)

We know the colors yellow and blue do not inspire a refined logo, but please try anyway! ;-)

Thank you very much for the new entries. Please keep on blowing some fresh wind through our competition!

Regarding ranking: we will now rank the best entry from each designer to keep things more clear. Only designs which are too far from what we want we will put in the 'not interested' bin. Hopefully this makes sense.

At this point we would like to express our warmest thanks for all the entries and hard work until now!
This is our overall comment at this moment:
- The globe has somehow to be present in the design.
- Refine, refine, refine!

Our harts have not yet stated to beat faster. Therefore we have extended the competition. We are not willing to settle with a design we will not be happy with.

Please give US feedback if there is something not clear. We really hope you read our comments and don't just look at what others designed. We challenge you to come up with something refined, subtle and elegant as we have entered into the stylistic sliders. Thanks.

Thank you all for the new entries, we really appreciate your hard work. This is what we will do now:

- We will now rank the best and most refined designs in our opinion.
- To make everything more clear we will place all other entries in the non-interesting box.

Hopefully this will inspire you here the last hours. Thanks again for your hard work!

We are very impressed with some of the latest entries. Thank you so much for your work and creativity!

We will now select the top 10 entries. This does not mean that number 1 has won yet, we will decide on that later.

We will not speak to individual designers (still, thank you very much!) but here are some reasons why your design is not in the top 10:
- seems too oriental looking
- not refined enough
- not fitted for our purpose

The entries which are not ranked and not in the 'not interesting' category are the runners-up.

Again, thanks for your creativity and hard work!

Hello all designers,

the reason we have not selected a winner yet is because we are waiting for information (answer to our questions) from Logotournament. Obviously they are quite busy so their reply to emails are quite slow.

Best regards,
Asser

Clarification:

We have been aware of the similarity with the Tempobet logo for a while now. But our team decided on the winning logo before that though so we still feel we have made the right decision. Because the two industries are so different we have decided to stick with our decision. This might seem unfair to other designers with, in their opinion, better designs.

Question: how many logo's around the world do you think are similar to each other without you knowing it?

Best regards,
Asser
