I would like a symbol to identify the brand. Bold, but simple. The lower case kg/lb will be used, but shouldn't be the main logo. Please look at the Progenex symbol, The Reebok CrossFit "Delta" (triangle), The Caffeine and Kilos "K".

This company will essentially be lifestyle company so we will need a bold symbol to associate with it.

I'm not against the idea of a weight plate, but I would want it to feel like a weight plate and not be an obvious plate. Also I am not set on the circle logo if you would like to explore other options.
